Coronavirus discussion thread - NO POLITICS, or "POLITICS by PROXY"

No, what you say, sir, is not correct. Not about anything I said (unless you can show me), or, about the public health implications of the disease itself. Not in the US, anyway. In the US, "most of us" are not in jeopardy of the public health system being overwhelmed by cases of Covid19, if...

Just to add some perspective to the subject, the foregoing contextualizes my prior posts. I suggest everybody take things one day at a time, do what you need to do, and keep your feet on the ground: Italy has an old population. That's why so many are dying from coronavirus there "Opinion /...

Good point. There's also an extraordinarily high blood alcohol level on a cruise ship! The virus is reportedly very sensitive to alcohol. I wonder if all that drinking is skewing the results by disabling the virus? Is that crazy? Yeah, probably. But I'm just wondering.

Sounds like the polio epidemic that happened in the US in the late 1940's. I survived that. It was just like you described. A nightmare. I still have nightmares about what happened. So now this is going to kill me? Ironic.

Good luck riding this out at home! You are so fortunate to be able to do that! Sounds like your chances of getting through this unharmed are vastly increased. My wife is disabled with MS and lives in a hospital bed in our living room. Her home health nurse called me day before yesterday to say...

Hunting for Bambi is a good example of disinformation promulgated by television news media. Yes, it received major television media coverage. World wide coverage, in fact. Behold: “Hunting For Bambi is a series of hoax videos publicized in the summer of 2003 that center on a fictional...

Hunting for Bambi was indeed a scam, which I pointed out. I would also like to point out that I was there, and you weren't. Your assessment of what happened is patently false. Hunting for Bambi received massive world wide news coverage including a high degree of coverage in the US media. You...

I am not a medical doctor and I am not giving anyone medical advise. I don't think anyone knows very much about what's happening with the Coronavirus. I have worked in the healthcare racket as a trained specialist allied to the practice of medicine, and this is what I think I know. Corrections...

How true it is! Some people I know here in Vegas started a thing called "Hunting for Bambi". The press releases were just a ruse to get free publicity and entice people into buying video's of naked women getting hunted and shot with paint ball guns. The timing was perfect because the guy who...

BL complained that I looked tired at the gig.

We had a solution for physical exhaustion back in the day. Killed a lot of production people. I ran out of #$%$# at the end of a three day / three show run where I didn't sleep and blacked out in my truck going 55 MPH. I hit the barrier so hard I bent a wheel in half! Woke up sideways on the...

The gloves might be useful. Masks will inhibit the virus from spreading in droplets from someone who is already infected. A mask won't strongly protect anyone from incoming infection. Any virus or bacteria for that matter can and does enter the body through the eyes, and the ears. You would need...

New altered climatic state? Well, that's super #$%$#ly correct, but if you are referring to global warming, ordinarily, virus born illnesses like the flu are diminished in warmer weather. Preliminary studies suggest that the Coronavirus is highly sensitive to temperature. It's too early to...

No one listens to the bass player

Because bass is subliminal, and hands down the most powerful instrument on the stage. While audiences may consciously "listen" to other instruments, they respond to bass physically and emotionally. Depending on how the instrument is played, that is. There's an art, and a science to it.

No one listens to the bass player

I think this ^ says it as good as it can be said. I don't think your situation has as much to do with you being a bass player as it has to do with the people your playing with. Certain bands / certain musicians tend to form cliques. Clique: a small group of people, with shared interests or...

I think a lot of it, maybe more than we would like to admit, has to do with the promotion budget. When there was such a thing, that is. The old adage used to be: People don't know what they like. They like what they know.

What you play in your IEM doesn't sound as good or the same for what the audience hears.

It seems like your getting a lot of advise regarding the technical qualities of the mix in your IEM's or the FOH mix, when what you are actually talking about is that your playing does not satisfy you when you listen back to a recording of the performance. It means to me you are on the road to...

The answer to your question / comment is that the matter won't come up unless someone claims they are the rightful owner of property you, for example, are in possession of. In that case, in the US, if the, "guy you bought it from lied on or about the receipt", because the property is stolen...

May I kindly point out that in that case, the rest of the band members are side men / women. That's why they aren't mentioned. it's about marketing. People like "stars". "Stars" draw the crowds. Some might say "stars" have the exceptional talent. There's always exceptions to the rule, like...

What’s the best way to deal with a drummer who plays too slow?

Your right, my friend. I didn't want to be a stick in the mud or anything. Drugs are a fact of life, and they always will be. I made a concentrated study of them, except for heroin, and I don't think its humanly possible to do what we did back then without them. Which is why so many people...

What’s the best way to deal with a drummer who plays too slow?

Since I've seen people dead with a needle in their arm on the road, I'm going to spoil the party by just saying that meth is poison and there is nothing good about it unless your in armed combat. I just wanted to inject some reality into the subject, since its been mentioned a few times. I...

What’s the best way to deal with a drummer who plays too slow?

Nothing wrong with using a metronome to set the tempo when playing live. Seen lots of big acts do it. You just can't see it from the audience. You have to be on stage. They use the strobe function and maybe tap their sticks together lightly on the last two lead in beats. Now, with the IEM's...

What's wrong with this picture, con't

If it's a winery gig, you can't play very loud and nobody's listening to the music anyway. So the picture reflects that? Personally, I would try to find a more inspiring photo for promo purposes. That one is pretty cerebral. Then again, if they're playing the assisted living facility circuit...

Live sound solution for excessive bass stage volume?

Your getting excellent advise here! I will just second the idea that a large part of the problem is apparently you are confusing the importance of how your bass rig sounds on stage compared to how you sound out in the audience. The only thing that matters is how you sound in the audience. The...
