I am looking for an inexpensive P bass (basswood body) that I can have some fun upgrading. You see a lot of the Main Street basses on Ebay....are they just another Chinese SX clone, any better, any worse? I really prefer basswood for its weight and the SXs are alder. My bad back demands it...

I realize this shows my ignorance but I have a set of Dimarzio noise reducing jazz pickups installed one of my basses that I would prefer go in another jazz bass. Is this possible? Both bases are passive 4-stringers.

Seems like the screws are always on the loose side from the factory, play hard and they can then move around. I apply just a touch of low grade purple Loctite to the threads and it's worked great. You can still adjust up and down but they stay put. Anybody else do?

Seems like it's not a good idea to remove too many times pickguards and the like because the threads in the wood start flatening out and you risk not being able to tighten the screw all the way. Is it a good idea in this case to apply a bit of wood filler to the screw threads before screwing...
