My blue SX short scale with mods

The latest mode of my short scale with Fender type headstock.

There is a loud minority on any subject.

BTW...avoid GHS short scale Brights. These are the worse sounding strings every to be stretched across some pickups.

I'd be skeptical and probably fire a bass teacher that made such a statement as there probably are other flaws in their teaching philosophy.

I've never been able to get neck action lower on any of the basses I've owned to match that of my SR. Great playing and sounding bass.

Who in their right mind would schedule an outside event in that temperature? Must be an ice carving or snowman building event :-) Any instrument, not just the bass, will have problems.

Duct tape it on, cover the bass with decals, add a ramp....then you'll wish it was back original. I'd leave it alone.

Having owned a Ric before......I can say I love the way they play and sound. However, they are way overpriced now and IMO not worth the premium. Much like some of the more expensive Fenders.

My next bass purchase will be the CV P bass.

Hmmmmmm unless you just need something to do.......I'd buy one and a wheelbarrow to carry it around in. ;)

Yes I had one and recall that smell. Sorta a woodsy, furniture polish, car polish, waxy smell. Whatever that is!

If your intent is to get it sounding like a Fender Jazz, you'd also have to install Jazz wiring harness and pots. Even with that it wouldn't mimic the Jazz sound completely. IMO

It comes in gloss and flat. I used gloss but the texture of the pickguard makes it look more like semi that gloss or flat, I should also mention that the pickguard was originally white. I then painted it blue with Krylon Fusion then painted over the blue with black.

Short scale setup & picker choices. Just curious what is your set up and picker choices. My short scale SX SPB-57 - 12th fret E string is .085 Use fingers 30% of the time and a Fender (tortise) heavy pick 70%. Occasionally, I'll use a Carol Kaye heavy pick.

This is special paint just for plastic and will not chip. It cost about $5.50 a can. Good stuff and lots of colors. The paint creates a molecular bond, pretty amazing.

If the holes are just a little off for the new bridge, get some wooden toothpicks. Rub the ends with glue and stick them in the screw holes. They will break off evenly on the body. Simple process and prevents having to use a dowel. Works great in any situation where the screw holes are too...

The action on my SR505 is so low you can blow on a string and it will touch a fret. Amazing playing and sounding bass but IMO not an all purpose bass. Doesn't well when trying to achieve Fender P or J sounds.

My shortie P neck is the same width at the nut as my MIA Fender Jazz. At the 12 fret (fret wire end to end) the shortie P is 1/4 inch smaller.

My 'playing' cramp usually is in my left neck/trapoziod area. I have noticed more cramps and joint stiffness in both hands. I'm 55.

I got my citristrip at Walmart near the paint section.

The stripper leaves some of the clear undercoat on but not much. In my case I sanded the neck with ultrafine and then rubbed Briwax on it including the fretboard. The larger decal on the neck got somewhat messed up during the stripping so I sanded the remainder off. The upper decal was not...

Forgot to mention. I read other post about the stripper melting the plastic nut so to be on the safe side I used masking tape on it.

Fusion is made just for plastic. The stuff is amazing and does not chip. Cost about $5.00 a can. Follow directions and dont rush the coats. Mine has 4 coats. I love the sound of the EMG Selects and the price is pretty good. Check out My Photos tab on that link and you can see how I modded...

I'd beware of flats on the shortie. I tried some GHS flats and the sound on my shortscale P was very thuddy.
