NBD: Hofner 500/1 Green Line Violin Bass

I spoke to a friend at Hofner regarding this. He said that the factory does place the label with the serial number and model inside the 500/1 Green Line basses. It's placed on the back of the of the body and viewable through all three holes when the tone/volume pots are removed. TD

What was your very first bass guitar?

My first bass was a 1967 Sunburst Tele-Star TB-2 teardrop. This is it in the photo below. In a weak moment 20+ years ago I sold it and instantly regretted it so after 10 years of searching I found another one which I still own today. From this I moved to my Hofner 500/1. TD

The official "Show your basses" thread part 19!

I've owned a "Cavern" for many years so its configuration isn't new to me. I actually prefer its tone with both pickups on. It improves the voicing by increasing the mid-tones of the bass while maintaining the deep woody tone the neck pickup produces. In my opinion it's improved tone definition. TD

    Höfner files for insolvency

For those who aren't really familiar with Hofner, electric basses and guitars are a small portion of their overall business. Hofner hate! Tell me why you hate or love Hofner basses

I've owned and played Hofner 500/1 basses for decades and rarely have I ever played Beatles tunes on them.
