    MBJ Bass Guitar!

That is a killer bass! Joe is THE COOLEST! He did most of the work on my CT and I have one on order with Carl I’m sure he’ll do a lot of work on as well. I have some ideas floating around I’d like to contact Joe about for one of his beautiful pieces at some point in the future as well. Congrats...

Is Carl moving? Just saw on Instagram (which I rarely frequent anymore) from colewillzslaps a cleared out shop. Still playing the waiting game to hear from Carl and I try not to bug him, so I wasn’t sure what’s up.

Well, after many delays on my end, Vic and I worked out a deal for me to add this little chestnut to my stable! I’ve seen this thing pop up on the used market several times over the years but it was never the right time for me to pick it up. Finally worked out in the end this time! I feel like...

Any 6 string Fender licensed luthiers out there?

Atelier Z makes the MVT 506 which is vintage Fender based. Unless you need ACTUAL Fender (or Fender licensed) rather than another company trying to emulate vintage Fenders. See below: https://reverb.com/item/66882577-atelier-z-mvt-506-custom-3ts-r-made-in-japan

Joe’s work is top notch, and he’s a good dude to boot! One thing that’s hard to sell from a Talkbass ad is feel and playability which Joe’s basses have in spades. GLWS, whoever ends up with this will be extremely lucky!

Glad I could assist! 😎 Here’s another closeup from when I replaced the front plate screws that shows an excellent contrast between some of the woods that is very representative of seeing it in person:

I had a dual reverse P setup like that on one of the old original Warwick Streamettes, NOT the recent reissue. I bet that thing sounds MONSTROUS! I love that pickup setup.

Woo! It’s been a crazy month here for me. I appreciate the mention to get my head back in the game haha. As the lucky current owner 😎 I would agree with that assessment. It’s honestly the bass I reach for the most often. I don’t know how much the Spanish cedar has to do with it but the...

    Warwick pickup replacement?

Seymour Duncan actives or Bartolini passives have always been my go to replacements in Warwicks. The only MECs I have ever actually liked in a Warwick were in a Katana NT5 I had picked up. I don’t know if it was the wood combo with those pickups or what. All other Warwicks I’ve owned I’ve...

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, brother. If anyone is considering sending an offer I can confirm Rich is a stand up guy and you will have an outstanding transaction! If this were up about 9-12 months from now I would send you a genuine offer. Hope you get everything figured out and you’re...

New project bass day: 1990 Warwick Thumb bass

Killer project! I am a huge fan of the old Warwicks. I’m always on the lookout for a Streamer with Axx88 serial number as my birth month AND year. You are much braver than I as that seems like an extremely daunting task. The fret impressions almost look to me less like play wear and more like...

I’ve recently emailed Cliff about something similar, ordering a pair of basses as one passive P bass config, one passive J bass config, both D shapes and keeping it “simple.” I’m thiiiiiiiiiiis close to pulling the trigger and placing the deposit. I’d have a 15 month wait which should feel quick...

Name the biggest hit you know of recorded these Boutiques?

I can only speak to BSSM recordings, but everything four string was on a Wal MK I, everything five string was on a Stingray. I remember that from a legitimate source, but can’t recall the source right now haha. I’ll update when I find it. Edit: This is NOT the source I originally had, but this...

I remember balking even a couple years ago when Modulus was having trouble, finally got revamped, and had to raise prices as a function of it all. I recently went back and looked again, they haven’t budged much on their prices since that high, but my god have other builders shot up! It seems...

I need to get my name on the roster. I’m LOVING my McNeelys but I’d really like to add a pair of D basses with a traditional Jazz and P sound and feel. Man… if I had the need for the volume this thing pumps out…. it would be on. This was THE sound I was looking for in the early oughts. I never played a mid 2000s Fender Bassman rig I didn’t LOVE the sound of. Plus one state over!

I’ve always wanted to pick up a Browne bass. Mike had such incredible craftsmanship. It’s a shame he had to hang up the shop apron so soon after he started. I’m always keeping an eye out to pick up one of the few he built on the used market.

Seems like he does it on the back more often than not these days. I picked this one up second hand so it wasn’t a choice for me haha. But honestly I kinda dig it. Iron Ether Appreciation Society

I appreciate the recommendation. I’m a fan of Dunlop/MXR stuff. They might not be the best or most unique but they’re solid and reliable. Kinda like Fender; readily available, make the sound they make, and they make it well. I was considering that for expression but didn’t know if the extra cost...

I still need to grab an expression pedal to try with all my IE lineup. Just like you mention, range and adjustability was the first thing I noticed with the XD. MEC or EMG for bright sounding Warwick?

I’ve owned half a dozen Warwicks and played several dozen more. I personally prefer Bartolini first, Seymour Duncan second, EMG third in Warwicks. They seem to not have the nasally, obnoxious mids MEC tend to have, with a slightly smoother and less harsh top end. That being said, I did own a...
