New Bass Day: Epiphone EB-1 Fretless

Finally getting into the fretless world. It only has one neck pickup for a thumptastic sound. The thing is kind of yuppy, unusual for me, but I really like this thing. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

    Give Me This Sound-Regardless

Hey all, This is electronica. DeadMau5 beat. Scroll ahead and get to the drop C heavy grinding beat. Yes, I know a vibrating string isn't going to come close. BUT. For my techy comrades out there, tell me what's going on to that signal in its digital processing. What is giving that REALLY...

Trading Ampeg BA115 for GK MB115-Advice Needed

Hey all, I want to trade my Ampeg BA115 that is in good condition for a gently used GK MB115. I'm sure I can get a guarantee on quality for the trade and have a warranty. He wants the Ampeg + $130. I think this is a little much as both amps are pretty comparable in price. What would you...

    Anyone from Madison, WI?

Hey all, I'm wondering if this thread is still alive or if you check it. I'm back in Madison as well and would love to have a get together at one of your favorite pubs. Let's talk bass and have a pint.

    Fretless players: flats or rounds?

what do you guys think about rounds and wear and tear on the fingerboard. I'm assuming with the massive amounts of round players here, not too big of an issue. I've been using GHS Precision flats, warmer tone than the DR Flats. imo.

    Suggestions for Warwick mods

I've felt the same way. We started playing some mellower Reggae stuff and my Corvette just had a little too much bite at times. Curious how much lowering the pickups would help?

"My guitar is really only the icing on the cake." He's a vocalist first, guitarist second. Healthy attitude.

I Hate That My Taste Is So Specific!

People here have said the Warwick Corvette Standard is a sure player in the "low Mids" range. And as an owner, I agree.

    wooly mammoth and boss question.

*UNSUBSTANTIATED: A friend of mine told me that he runs his TU-2 in the stream mode. Such that, by having the tuner activated it is more in a sense, 'true' bypassed. Yes, no?

    When support acts... don't!

I would agree. Don't let them use it. Yes, equipment breaks down at the last minute and we should be willing to lend a hand but I think I've read too many horror stories of strangers disrespecting other's equipment.

How to go about eqing in my situation?

In my experiences with EQ'ing things, is that I find a tone I like and then I bring the volume levels of each boosted or cut tone back to a more subtle level. Example: "Oh, I like my bass with an 8db boost at 800Hz" I would then drop it down to first 5db, and maybe then 3db. Eq'in to me is so...

    Why are Warwicks so clear?

As a Corvette Standard owner I have come to appreciate the transparency of my instrument. It really is clean. A good foundation in which an effects geek can fool around with. Truly a nice instrument with its craftsmanship.

    Hitting Low Notes

anyone who speaks of some stigma associate with 5 strings is foolish in my mind. You need to drop tune, then do it. You're being practical with a 5 string. Who knows what you might learn from it. This is all coming from me, who only owns a 4-string.

A Thing of Beauty (rare bass content)

Easy. It did not evolve. God incarnated the Star for Bootsy as a divine gift as a sign of humility.

    More watts = more volume?

Especially if your ears ring after each practice. I've noticed room acoustics can make a difference of how the bass feels as well as where you stand relative to your cab. All that aside, turn it down. It was surprising to me to learn the intricacies that I missed while playing blatantly loud.

De-Fret Job or Just buy a fretless bass.

I agree with the majority. Buy a proper fretless bass, even if it's a cheap one to learn on for the meantime. I bought a defretted bass. Although the guy did a proper job, upon closer inspection it reveals intricacies that just really can't be avoided when you take a pair of heavy metal pliers...

    Implications of an amateur setup?

The previous design of the Warwick's carbon nut had the same thing. It consisted of a plastic base that rested on the headstock and then the nut "floated" on that with it's screws. It did have little guards on the side to keep it moving laterally, but I have yet to have any issues of it moving...

    we've been replaced.
