Yes, that's not normal, but if I wire the negative through the switch I'll get a loud noise when disconnected. I think the fender preamp is still getting the negative from battery somehow through the circuit ground.
Hi guys, sorry to bring this old post again.
I've made a mod in my Jazz Deluxe as described in this post in Fenders forum: Invalid Link Removed
This is working fine i can switch from passive to active. The problem is that each time I turn active or passive I ear a very loud "click". I...
I have one KZ5 amber also.
If you want to save some money (at least for now) don't swap everything.
In my case I've only installed a Bart HR5.3 electronics and kept the stock pickups and she plays wonderfull, IMO.
I've bought a second hand Fender Jazz bass S/N from 2001 and I've notice that the last owner replaced the stock pickups. Now this bass has the ones you see in the foto, but I can't see any reference and don't know them. The bass sounds good, that's why I'd like to know which pickups are.
Can...
IMHO is not only a case of hardware or EQ, this is mainly a technique.
I have a MM Stingray and I use to mute the sound releasing the dampers (sponge) in the bridge. These sponges are available in the MM classic versions. When I use another bass what I do is to mute the sound using base of my...
Don't ask me why, but still love the 4's and I rather prefer them.
I usually play with a 5 (have 3 of them) because i play in two covers bands and for several musics I need the B.
But I always take a 4 with me, just because.......because! Can't explain.
I have 4 4 string basses and...
1. MTD
2. Fender Jazz
3. Musicman classic
4. Fender P
5. Yamanha
6. Tobias
7. Ibanez
8. Ken Smith
9. Fodera
10. Alembic
Actually, just the last 3 are missing...;)
Great!
I made only the upgrade for electronics, but i'm still thinking about replacing the pups.
Just one question...can you mount again the covers with those pickups or is not possible anymore?

Can someone teach me how can I do this bias adjust in a Bugera BVP5500?
I have a Jazz Bass Deluxe 24, made in Korea with bassline pickups and it sounds awesome, fat and clear. Like it very much.
You can find it seated in the chair...:

I'd say that it depends on your amp DI output. Some amplifiers have the lineout totally independent from the preamp and any other adjusts. This means you can make any changes on your amplifier and the line output doesn't changes, so you don't need a external DI. If this is not your case I...
Hi
I've installed yesterday the NTMB918f into the Z5. Unfortunately I couldn't find a connector for the second battery, so only tested with 9V.
The output level is much higher (as expected) and the tone is now much more punchy and more strong in the middle range, but to be honest it's just a...
IMO it depends on the type of music you play.
I prefer the 4 string basses, not only because the spacing between strings, but because my 4 string basses have much better tone than the 5 string basses. it's hard to get a bass with a good 5th.
If you don't need the 5th string I'd say go for a...
Hi Thanks
yes it may be something not standard. I tryed to find information about this preamp...but nothing.
Well, actually I like the stock solution tone, the problem is the output level is too low. Perhaps I can get more level and a different tone, I'm not sure. I'll try to connect the...
Hi Guys.
I've tryed to get this answer on the pups and elect. forum, but got no answers, so i decided to place it here. I read almost all of the posts here but I can't find what I need.
I've bought a Z5 some weeks ago and I'm wondering what preamp is installed in this bass. I've opened the...
Hi
I've bought a Z5 some weeks ago and I'm wondering what preamp is in this bass.
I've opened the back cover but I can't see who's the producer, it only has writen "G & B co."
Does anyone know what is this?
I like the sound, but I have a spare bart XTMB-918f that was the pre from my...
yes, actually it's a pitty to replace the bart. preamp, but I need a more deep and punchy sound. This pre is quite good for slap but the overall tone sucks...
Hi people.
After all this time I'm coming back to this issue!
I've tryed all possible configurations on my Tobias (changing capacitors, working with parallel or serie pups) the sound is a little better but far away from what I want.
I bought a MTD Z5 some weeks ago and the sound is a lot...
is the pre also Bartolini?
i have a bass with a similar configuration with a ntmb_918 pre, and it works much better and louder with two 9V batteries (18V).
Well, I am a little suspicious...I just love the Ampeg sound.
So, if budget doesn't represents a problem, go for a Ampeg SVT-CL, plus a SVT 410 and a SVT 15 :bassist:
Almost all of the brands have now the main production in China, Korea, etc.
Even brands as MTD, Warwick, Lakland and so many others, have the production of their medium price basses somewhere in Asia.
Well...it depends on the places you use to play.
In my case I have two sets depending on how large is the stage and the place:
For big places i use my Ampeg SVT350+SVT410+SVT15
For little places like Hotels, bars, private parties, etc, I use my combo BA115 or the Fender Studio 200
