Someone suggested a Fender Jaguar. I own one and love it, but beware; many have buzz/grounding issues. They can range from simple to take care of to drive you crazy- ville.

I have the black Jag. I like the Maple headstock better than the Hot Rod Red w matching headstock look.

I live in Vermont. Nobody carries Gibson products in the entire state, so I was forced to get my Epiphone EB3 via mail order. The on E-Bay saw a used Fender Jag for cheap ($455 shipped). It could be the only Jag in the state, the biggest store hadn't ever seen one. Both buys worked out fine...
