Fret Sizes for Fender American Standard Jazz Bass & Ernie Ball SB 14?

I'm looking for the fret size of the 2011 American Standard Jazz Bass, and i don't mean in terms of "medium jumbo", i'd like the four digit number-size. Also, if anybody knows the four digit number-size of the frets on the Ernie Ball SB14, that would be helpful. It's a long shot, but if...

I'd still like to know why instruments such as this, with obvious chipping and some (others) are practically falling apart, are apparently "worth" so much?

_______ What is the brightest pup's for jazz ?? ______

Hmm, daimn! I was tossing up between the fralins and antiquity IIs and i ended up buying the fralins. Am now thinking the 60s custom shops will be a good alternative to the antiquity IIs when i'm ready to go that route ;)

Warmoth Slim Taper Neck & Neck Woods

Howdy, Just an inquiry about Warmoth slim taper necks. As some of you know, i am looking for a JB neck that has a flatter profile (at the back of the neck). Don't really like the modern C shape. Question: does the slim taper effect the tone in any way? What sort of wood should i be looking...

Passive vs. Active - don't 'shoot' me!

What sort of pick-ups would you recommend then Nev? Maybe something responsive? I think the MIA ones are too tame. smcd, lol.. To clarify the random tones statement, i don't mean random notes, i mean there are variations in tone sometimes that make notes sound sightly out of tune. Thought it...

Passive vs. Active - don't 'shoot' me!

I just had a little tinker on my SB and *bham*, you don't have to strike the strings hard at all to get an a relevant tone out of it, which is an advantage. However, you fail to get that warm, really FUNKY, grindy tone out of it, which is what most bass players want eventually. So, flexibility...

Passive vs. Active - don't 'shoot' me!

I guess i mean it's pretty sensitive to finger pressure. I know this could be a technique problem, but the active bass seems super sensitive to any variation in finger tone, which could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on genre. When i play my active SB through headphones, it is...

    New Bass

Why does everybody say that? Some people miss out on learning. You are assuming that each thread on the same topic will get the same responses, or that the same users that were around when old threads were created, might still be around. It's a pretty limiting attitude, there is always room for...

Passive vs. Active - don't 'shoot' me!

Before anybody complains, i have searched the threads, but don't have an answer to my question. My question is pretty specific though, it's not just a 'passive vs. active' question. My question relates directly to passive vs. active jazz basses. I have a Sterling SB14 (i know it's not a jazz...

    1969 Precision price...

I think you could seriously try to add it to your basket for $0.00. Chances are, they'll either check the price or not. Worst case scenario is you make a joke of it and say "just thought i'd try my luck". Go on OP, do it.

    Duncan Design Pick-ups

I just took the vol and tone control plate off my mia and realised that pup replacement by me is far too complex a process. I will need to pay somebody to do it and when my hip pocket nerve is effected, i sit up and take notice! I will be getting some Fralins or Antiquities, the decision is made.

    Duncan Design Pick-ups

Sorry, forgot to mention i'm interested in J pickups. walterw: Well, i'm interested in tone, so if these are equal to the "real" Duncans in terms of quality and tone, then i'm in! If the "real" Duncans are better in terms of quality and tone, then i'd probably consider them. Did you mean...

    eBay: it continues

I've got to say, i find it a little distasteful that this guy is selling off all of his stuff if it was endorsed. For example, Lakland is a great company, which endorses artists periodically. I know plenty of people who would give their right arm to receive a Lakland bass for free, and...

What is a really good "broken in" Jazz bass?

Hi, What model and brand of bass feels broken in, even when bought brand new? For example, i've found that my MIA Fender feels "tight", whereas i played a super-cheap vintage bass a few months ago, and it felt "loose" and broken in. The neck was easy to navigate, and it was just easy to play...

Warmoth jazz bass vs. mid-range jazz bass

Ahh, excuse me?! You have the body which is about $300, if you're lucky. You have the neck, which is about $395 (if you're lucky)... And, how do you think the thing is going to 'play'? Will it just play itself, the wood and glue? No, you then have electronics, machine heads, the bridge, nut...

Warmoth jazz bass vs. mid-range jazz bass

Okay, It's decision time again. I'd like to know your thoughts on whether i should get a custom-made Warmoth, or a mid-range "branded" jazz bass, such as a Skyline, MIM, MIJ, or even a MIA Fender? The advantages of the Warmoth (imo) are: - Custom colour - Get to choose the body type, wood...

    Lady Gaga Isn't so Bad

Yeah, but the difference between Ga Ga and Madonna is that Ga Ga makes herself accessible. Madonna just puts herself up on a pedastool and says, "look everyone, aren't i great?". Ga Ga is inclusive in her performances, Madonna is not as much. That is why Ga Ga is working and Madonna isn't at the...

    How are those Fleabasses?

Imo, i think a Fleabass is an beginners / advanced beginners bass. As Kwesi suggests, they are not that well made. However, they are easy to play, in terms of the weight and neck. So, to answer your question, it depends on where your learning is at. If you've been practising on a so/so bass for...
