    "J" pickups discussion and comparisons.

Are they pretty responsive to harmonics?

    "J" pickups discussion and comparisons.

Ya know, I have to admit I probably didn't give the QPs a very fair shake. I was so 'shell-shocked" at how good the nordys were that the nordys were the standard by which I held the QPs to. And that's a mistake. Completely different animals. But given the hum, I would have traded them out...

    "J" pickups discussion and comparisons.

It's been my experience that overdrive/distortion tends to amplify the 60 cycle hum on single coils. That's not to say that they wouldn't work well with effects. Rojo simply asked how quiet they were, and I told him.

    DiMarzio Area J

Ya know I'm just about sold on these, but I do have one question. How responsive are they to playing harmonics?

    Loving the DR Hi-Beam's!

Nice slap tone, bud. DRs are the only string I'll buy. Had a set of hi beams on a warwick thumb (before I got rid of it) and was impressed with those strings. I got fat beams on one jazz, sunbeams on another jazz, and nickel plated low riders on yet another jazz.

    "J" pickups discussion and comparisons.

They're not quiet at all, bud. Even on the cleanest setting. So forget about overdrive or distortion, that is, if you use that. I can't tell you about DC, but that info might be on the tone chart at the seymour duncan website.

    "J" pickups discussion and comparisons.

I've heard nothing but compliments on the antiquity II's. I just can't deal with the hum. I just wish the nordys weren't so costly. An eventual mod will be an OBP-3, and I understand that Nordys work just as well with it as the aggys. I'm so torn between the two that it may just come down to a...

    "J" pickups discussion and comparisons.

I'm pretty interested in these split coil aggy's as well. Given the description from the aggy rep, they seem to be quite similar to the Nordstrand nj4se's that I put into an MIM j bass a while back. Outstanding pickups that ooze beautiful jazz tone and can certainly growl. I recently picked up...

    Noiseless Jazz Pickups

Well, over the weekend, I bought a pair of Ultra Js and put them in my new Jazz 24. No noise at all, but I gotta say, tonewise, they're not really what I'm looking for. Loads of power and the neck pickup sounds pretty decent, but the bridge pickup almost sounds "brittle" due to the scooped eq...

    Zoom B3 multi-effects

I agree that it's a difficult pedal for live "on the fly" use, but as far as what's out there right now in terms of sound quality, I don't think the B3 can be beat. If the chassis had been formatted more like the B2.9 or the Boss GT10B, I think that would have solved these issues. Although it...

Just put in DiMarzio Ultra Jazz's - brief review

I picked up a set of ultras and had them installed in my active fender jazz 24 today. Still has the stock preamp, though. They are indeed some beefcake pickups. I've got nordstrands in another passive jazz, and these ultras are quite different.

    Noiseless Jazz Pickups

Nice thread, here. I just a new condition Fender Jazz 24, and the stock SD quarter pounders just aren't doing it for me. The bass is active with treble, bass, mid, and a mid switch, which eventually, I'm gonna replace with an AG OBP-3. What pickups would work well with this? Based on youtube...

    NJ4-SV vs NJ4-SE; help!

I don't have experience with both, but I do have a set of SEs in an MIM Jazz. You can definitely hear a low-mid bump and smooth highs. In my estimation, I couldn't have made a better choice for that bass.

    Saw Victor Wooten last night

Oh mercy, what a show! He hit the stage with Anthony Wellington and Steve Bailey, 4 other multi-instrumentalists and and incredible singer. First time I ever saw Vic play the guitar. Steve did an absolutely sick solo on his 6 string fretless. And of course, Vic Was amazing in his solo spot too...

Why do you tend to sell basses?

In the past, I've sold them for financial reasons. But recently, I've sold them either to upgrade, or just because they weren't for me. I'm trying to learn to be happy with what I have and not let "gas" do me in as it has done in the past.

Ibanez SR500 Soundgear Vs Warwick Rockbass corvette

Lots of opinions on here. so I'll add mine. 'Bout 6 weeks ago, I was on the prowl for a new bass with a very different tone than my 2 jazzes. So I picked up an Ibby sr500. Playability and comfort was amazing. But I just couldn't get a pleasing tone outta that puppy at all. It's got import barts...

    Where can I find this?

That's probably the route I'm gonna have to take, although I'm trying to do more research on the warwick rockbass corvette premium. I know it's got 2 J pups in there, but that's one sweet lookin' axe.

    Fender Jaco Pastorius Jazz Bass

Aside from some sort of high mass bridge, I'd have put a set of nordstrand NJ4SEs in there. Excellent tone, lower mid boost, highs are cut a tad, but the harmonics ring out nice. Maybe cap it off with some DR nickel low riders. THAT would make it a real Jaco Jr.

    Fender Rumble 410 anyone?

If I would've had the coin at the time, I'd have gotten the Hydrive 4x10 to go with the lh500. But 700 is alot to pay for a cab and the store I go to always tries to sell me their ultra used floor models at full price. Believe it or not, they're trying to sell a damaged hydrive 4x10 where the...

    Fender Jaco Pastorius Jazz Bass

I used to own the Squier vm fretless. In fact, I called it "Jaco Jr". And it was a decent bass for the money, but I had such a hard time with fretless, so I let it go. Sure, there's tons of ways I could've modded it, but those options would have cost 2 to 3 times as much as the bass did. And I...

    Fender Rumble 410 anyone?

I use a rumble 4x10 cab with my Hartke lh500, and it's really a great combination. The Hartke pumps out 500w @4 Ohms, the cab is wired at 4 Ohms, so in this small, unassuming little half stack, I'm getting a full 500w of power out of it. And boy, does it sound good.

    Question for Warmoth owners

I'm thinking of ordering a G4 (gecko) body, neck, parts and having a tech build a bass for me. In all, I think the bass will run about 1600-1800 including tech fees. I guess this is my version of a Fodera on a budget. How would you rate your Warmoth bass in contrast to some of the higher...

Does Ibanez SR500 have active pickups or just active EQ? Can you use an active DI box

A couple months ago, I bought an Ibby SR500 to be kind of a "contrast" from my jazz basses. I just couldn't get it to sound decent. Nice feeling, nice playing, lightweight bass, but with import pups and a bottom feeder preamp. I thought about jackin' it up with Nordstrand big splits and an...

    Mixin' n Matchin'?

    Mixin' n Matchin'?

I understand. The rumble cab, while many consider them "beginner Level" cabs, has a pleasing tone which is warm and smooth. While the hydrive seems to accentuate the highers frequencies and adds more definition and articulation. Thanks for your input.

    Mixin' n Matchin'?

Hello all. A quick question for all the amp gurus out there. I have a Hartke LH500 driving a Fender rumble 4x10. The lh500 pumps out 500 w at 4 ohms. the rumble cab is wired at 4 ohms with a 1000w capacity, So I'm getting a full 500w out of my rig. My question is this: I'd like to get a...
