Prefer The Sound Of Stainless Steel, But Feel of Nickel

I would not be concerned about metal dust either. Just do it outside if you are. But a few swipes of 440 sandpaper would probably make even the toughest string feel better. I never really thought about it. It’s about time to change strings. Maybe I’ll get some DR Hi Beams and give it a try.

Stolen bass which pops on another website...

If you say so. Get me the serial numbers and we’ll talk. Those pictures won’t hold up to a forensic analysis. If it is the same bass. It was clearly stolen and sold to a pawn shop or something and is being resold. Simple as that.

Oh you mean to just smooth them a bit. I don’t see how a little sand could hurt.

Prefer The Sound Of Stainless Steel, But Feel of Nickel

Have you tried the Rotosound Flats? They are quite stiff. Not floppy at all and quite lively sounding for a flat. My Mikro wears flats but the Stingray wears rounds.

You are describing ground wound strings. They exist. But I’ve never tried them.

Think about it. They take a slab and slice it into thin sheets and process it sequentially.

Stolen bass which pops on another website...

If both basses were made by Rickenbacker at the same time period they may be made form the same tree and have very similar grain patterns. Without the serial number you can’t know.

    Favorite Guitarists?

Gonna throw some love in here for Pete Townshend. Not technically a good guitarist but lots of energy and great songwriting ability. And isn’t that what the guitar is about? Also Glen Campbell. Check out his 12 string records.

Toni Iommi is an underrated guitarist IMHO. Not to mention being the groups chief song writer.

    Favorite Guitarists?

I’ve really developed a very different taste for guitarists now. In my youth I was impressed by shredders and technical skill (who isn’t?). The likes of Eddie, Jimi and Clapton. Now I’m much more interested in creative chords and emotional playing. Robert Smith Kurt Cobain The guy from...

I can do 32” but no longer as that 1-4 fret stretch is just too big for my wittle hands.

Which 10 songs should I learn to get a feel for Praise/Worship?

I’m going to double down and say go ahead and listen and play along to Agnus Dei. I did the other day and it was a lot of fun. As far as I can hear It doesn’t even have a bass part so it’s a perfect opportunity to see how you can both keep the rhythm going add some low end and also stay in...

    The Strap Snob Discussion Thread.

Indeed. I love my leather strap but it’s nothing fancy. Just a quality piece of leather that works for me. Once you know what material you want I’d suggest finding a maker on Etsy or something who can custom make something for you. Now that would be a strap to get snobby about.

Pearl Jam songs make me nauseous

Same here. They are a good band that write a good song but I don’t love them. Eddy Vedders voice is only good in small doses. Yield is a great album though.

Need help choosing between two beginner basses

I think you’ll find TB to be a very friendly site My suggestion is just look at budget basses. I also suggest you skip a fiver for now and just buy a budget bass of any type. Ibanez has tons of models with some very cool styling that are well priced. I suggest you actually ignore which bass...

Why is EVERYONE playing mis-oriented basses?

Dear god no it’s not like that at all. There is a definite neurological reason why the bass and guitar are oriented the way they are. Of course people are individuals and some people will go against the grain. I saw a video on the gram lately of a HS baseball player who switches sides after...

Which 10 songs should I learn to get a feel for Praise/Worship?

Interesting take. At first I thought he’s crazy. But then as I replayed the album in my mind I thought hmm. Not bad. Worship songs definitely fit the overall sound and structure of that album with some exceptions. Of course it doesn’t hurt that 3 of the members are committed Christians. I...

Tell me you're old without telling me you're old

Not counting stuff like Mickey Mouse disco that was Literally my first album. My dad had a copy and I think he must have been annoyed that I kept playing it because I came home from school one day and my mom had bought it for me. I think I was in kindergarten.

Which 10 songs should I learn to get a feel for Praise/Worship?

I think Michael W. Smith is a great place to start. He isn’t exactly worship music but he’s got real pop cred and super positive music. Of course if you’re looking for worship music my personal suggestion is anything by Cliff Richard. But I may be dating myself a bit there. I would imagine a...

    SBMM Stingray Short scale

Playing at high volume will require a lighter touch which I imagine should make the floppiness less of an issue. Look at Entwhistle for example. Dude played with a very light touch but also at insane volumes.

Found morel mushrooms in my yard. Advise me on how to use them.

Hey I’ve also been blessed to have some growing in my yard some years. I usually left them but one year I picked them and sautéed them with garlic and onion. They were good but a bit past their prime so a bit leathery. So make sure you pick them when they are ready.

What size hex wrench for US Professional tuners?

My guess would be they are metric and there are a few sizes that cross over between imperial and metric. There are also 2.5 mm hex screws too

What size hex wrench for US Professional tuners?

Are they stripped at all? Sometimes that will change the size a bit. If you can’t find the right one just jam one in there and extract it. Then replace with a better sized option.

    Prince’s approach to bass lines.

I think he is referring to poorly articulated notes that the bassist is adding. After all what is a ghost note but one that’s been sort of strangled and ooorly srtoculate

changes to my world as a gigging bassist part 2/update

I hear you. Between work and family I never expected that finding time and the right people to play with would be so hard. A few years ago I had the time but couldn’t find a good group. Now I’ve got no time. Good luck man.

Upgrade from Phil Jones Bass sound

Perhaps the problem isn’t the amp but the cabinet. Maybe ditch the extension cab. I’ve never had a chance to hear PJB in the wild so I can’t compare it but MarkBass and Hartke are both known to have a “flat” “transparent” sound. However the speaker you pair it with has a bigger impact on sound...

    Mini P Bass in Church

Why would anyone notice? No one pays attention to the bass player. Especially when you’re worshipping. Lots of people on here gig with Mikros and mini P basses. The perception that they are substandard toys is just wrong.

Why is EVERYONE playing mis-oriented basses?

I think if you invert your playing you’ll understand why. Rhythm comes easier on the dominant hand while fretting is actually simple. Push down on the string while the other hand actually makes the string vibrate at just the right amplitude and timing. Just like in golf and baseball the...

    Prince’s approach to bass lines.

We had another thread on here a while back about that. I personally believe what he refers to as ghost notes are just notes that are not part of his original composition. Basically he’s saying don’t add anything because even an extra note that is barely audible somewhere isn’t what the song/I...
