Favorite Guitarists?

I’ve really developed a very different taste for guitarists now. In my youth I was impressed by shredders and technical skill (who isn’t?). The likes of Eddie, Jimi and Clapton. Now I’m much more interested in creative chords and emotional playing.

Robert Smith
Kurt Cobain
The guy from Silversun Pickups
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Lindsey Buckingham

Just the ones who come to mind.

very underrated.

such a shame he fell apart after 'piper'.
His solo work after Piper is brilliant though.

And the two songs he wrote for Pink Floyd after Piper that was turned down by the rest of the band and the record company as too disturbing are freaking brilliant as well:

A shame though that the last part of his first solo album was so badly handled/produced.

On this very faithful and respectful cover, you can hear what the track "If It's In You" from his first solo album could have sounded like for example, if properly taken care of and produced, the vocals and guitar on this track is pretty much identical to what was recorded by Syd:

And the tracks on his first solo album that was produced by Peter Jenner and backed up by musicians, mainly from "Soft Machine", are pure genius!

The rumors of his madness are wildly exaggerated, he just didn't want to be a pop star.

He definitely did have a mental breakdown though, partially because of the pressure from this fame, the record company, and the rest of the band seemingly not gelling with his musical direction.

Man, some fine lists here!
I'll just throw in a couple that haven't been mentioned yet...

Roger McGuinn - Love his work with The Byrds all the way down to his guitar tone. Still makes me want a Ric 360-12 to this day.
John Sebastian - Another "way before my time" artist, but Lovin' Spoonful is a band I have a lot of nostalgia for and I believe his playing and composition had a lot to do with that.
