I see someone else already mentioned Naked City, but my friend, the band you seek is Imperial Triumphant. Actually, this is the exact opposite of what you asked for - it's metal with very heavy and obvious jazz, bebop, and big band influences, rather than "heavy" jazz. But it's still neat.

...perhaps not as aggressive as you might like, but definitely out there. A similar trio, more on the rock/King Crimson side of things, was Polytown...

I mentioned Laswell and Sharrock earlier, and while this is not metal, it is agressive...

Not sure if it's exactly what is on your mind, but I consider BADBADNOTGOOD a heavy jazz incarnation with people dancing pogo on their concerts. And their bass player Chester Hansen is slayin' it too.

I may be way off the mark here, but if your somewhere between jazz and tool, and Spinal Tap's Jazz Odyssey got a mention above, you might check out Mr. Bungle's first album. It's all over the place... Definitely edgy rock with some jazzy and non-conventional... Frankly it's hard to describe, but worth a front to back listen.
