2 Notes Opus

Does the Opus Enhancer do a decent job of compression for bass guitar?
I use the 'body; control for slight comp and it seems to do a good job. I have it set pretty mild (around 9:00 or 10:00). There is already a little natural compression with the tube in my ReVolt, so it's plenty for me. I was able to ditch my Empress comp. However, depending on your setup, YMMV.

Thanks for the info.

I can see I have a lot to learn.
Ross from Two notes here. First up, thanks to everyone for weighing in. The Enhancer essentially provides a range of tools to add a final polish to your tone - my advise is to use this sparingly / subtilely and to use it for corrective means only. It does indeed feature a fixed compressor to help thicken up the tone a little, however if you are seeking a dedicated source shaping compressor, I would advise front-loading OPUS with a dedicated compressor pedal. I have always been a big fan of the MXR M87 Bass Compressor for this purpose! If you have any other questions about OPUS, please let me know!

Thank you very much.

I really love how the Diamond Bass Comp sounds - that's the kind of fattening I'm looking for (oops, wrong thread), but I suspect that with the tubes and fine tuning options in the Opus, I won't really need anything more than what the Enhancer provides.

I will definitely wait and see how the Opus sounds without effects in front (I'm not a big effects user anyway) and see if it gets where I want to go tonally (if I do decide to purchase the Opus... Jonesin' big time for one).

No problem at all - if you have any other questions, I am here to help!

I finally read through the whole thread.

How good is the quality of the headphone amp in the Opus?

I listened to several videos of both the Opus and the HX Stomp - L6 has an amp model called Cali Bass that is modeled on a Mesa M9 head that just sounded incredible!

If the development team isn't already working on that, I think it would make a great addition.

What is the most transparent cab model that comes with the Opus?
Someone was wanting to bypass the Cab sims and go directly to using the post EQ section - if there was a cab that basically just passed the previous sections of the Opus signal without any extra processing, that would be the equivalent of bypassing the Cab section.

@John D Harris

I have suggested a "dummy cab sim" to get the front end to that tool block. However, currently, it is not possible. It could potentially become available as there are already additional feature updates to the OPUS after it's original release.

The Two Notes Genome architecture has "the 400" (Mesa 400+) that is available online (computer brain power required) for the OPUS. It cannot be downloaded to the OPUS.

I think that the headphones 🎧 amp is great. Albeit that feature is of less importance to myself.

Just an FYI...

You don't have to use a cab sim in the Opus. I don't.

If you want to use the EQ...it's post-DynIR

I can hear the EQ and enhancer adjustments. I am not using a cab sim or the preamp section. Just the power amp, EQ and enhancer. It is post IR, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work without an IR loaded. I guess there is the possibility that it's in my head, but Ross can probably clarify.

It has been a thing with the design. Others have brought this up in the OPUS world. It caused me to think about it and suggest the "dummy cab DynIR" to allow for the TMS preamp/power amp section to have the EQ available.

Ross told me it would be put in the team "idea bucket" as a solution for this situation. It's not the end of the world as the OPUS needs a master EQ as a premier recording tool.

Hi Everyone, seems like I am a little late to the party. The headphone output on OPUS has been specified for professional use so you should have no issues there; specs below...

Max output power: 300mW under 100Ω
Output impedance: 33Ω

In terms of adding a MESA M9 inspired preamp, consider it noted down and sent to the team for consideration in a potential future update.

In terms of cab transparency, you can disable the cabinet emulation in OPUS by clicking the ON button shown in the yellow box below...

By doing this you will disable the cabinet emulation but retain use of all other processing blocks!

Let me know if this clears things up a bit! :)

But, you cannot apply the EQ block BEFORE the cab DynIR and then out, correct?

Thank you very much!

Just to clarify, when you say "By doing this you will disable the cabinet emulation but retain use of all other processing blocks!" - does that mean you can still use the "the EQ and enhancer adjustments"?

I think that is what @NorthTexasBass was saying.

BTW, I just ordered an Opus.
What are the steps for setting us an account and access to the software suite - I assume I will need the HW serial #, which means having the unit in hand?

Thank you for all of your input and help!

Correct. Here are my settings for the vintage dirt channel with Cab and Preamp disengaged. The Power amp, EQ and enhancer are engaged.

@Ross Davies

That's good to know...I had never disengage a DynIR, but had bypassed the preamp/power amp section and only used the DynIR cabinet on the DI. Of course, the 1/4" I have only the preamp section.

Q: Do you know if the outputs are setup differently can the one without the DynIR cabinet still use the Post-EFX EQ on that output? Or is that limited to the DynIR cabinet output?
