2013-14 NHL Regular Season Thread: Second Period

Wow, I can't believe my Wings are still in it. They've even got key injuries in the farm system. :rollno:

Right now they are without Daytsuk, Weiss, Zetterberg, Albukator, Helm, Bertuzzi and Ericson. And yet they are still #7 in the Eastern conference playoff picture. While they won't make a run this year at the cup they are going to have one great group of forwards for next season. Especially with the development of Nyquest and Tartar.

OTOH they suck at the blue line, with only two legit NHL blue liners right now and no real #1 defenseman.

Give a lot of the credit to Mike Babcock and Ken Holland. Holland's a good coach and Holland's given him the pieces to work with. Much as I hate the Wings (holdover from Bowman era), they do things right.

Haha, an ask Crosby would be fine. He's generally well liked outside of cities that don't start with P or B, and isn't a dirty cheap shot artist. The Pens PR department has always been pretty crappy (their twitter is dumb and boring), I'm not surprised they didn't realize how bad of an idea the ask Neal thing was.

What did Crosby do to the Carolina or Toronto fans so they hate his guts?

On another note, I don't get how you can dislike a player so much. In my case, I am not a fan of the Flyers, as in the Flyers organization. I don't hate any of their players. Quite contrary, several I admire. Being a Pens fan from central PA, it's just been natural in my lifetime to dislike those jokers from the east. I hope they lose when the Pens play them, but generally I am happy for them when they win.

I hate the Flyers, and their fans, and cheer for as much misfortune as possible. When I was a bouncer at Penn State, most of the kids I had to physically fight were from the Philly suburbs. Not saying there's no one like that from western PA, I just have a deeply ingrained detest for them.

I don't like Giroux, I kind of think he's a punk. But it's natural for me to hate the captain of the Flyers. That said, Simmonds is one of my favorite NHL players. He's the power forward I wish James Neal was. I would run circles around my house naked screaming at the top of my lungs if Simmonds ever ended up on the Penguins.

See? Now that's a hockey fan!

Yeah, I went through that phase in my life. I hated other teams and their players. I got mad when I saw they won a game, and I would cheer for the team playing them. I'd go to games and stand out by the team bus screaming at the opposing team players that I hated telling them how happy I was they lost. I'd taunt them about going back to the minor leagues during the games. Then I got over it. I enjoy sports, some teams more than others.

Now I want to go home and watch Slap Shot again! When I was young we'd do things like that at some Hershey Bears home games at big rivalries for fun. I do miss Section 25 at Hersheypark Arena!

Philly fans are like that. We hate, hell we loathe all the other teams in the division. Kind of hard now with a couple teams like Columbus and Carolina thrown in the mix that have never been rivals before. Caps are even kind of hard even with the controller disconnected guy thrown in there.

I did not see any of the game. The guy appears to be weak mentally, so racking up five straight losses is not good for him as the playoffs approach, his fault or not. If he also thinks it's not his fault, then he's going to stop trusting his team mates, try to win games on his own, and get back to playing out of his element.

Just wait til I'm banging on the roof of the team bus. He'll be curled up in the corner.
