You can and I do all the time, 8 ohm cabs with parallel jacks are abundant. You can also run an SVT with an 8 ohm load if you're willing to risk the stress on the tubes/OT. I like to keep my amp happy and run a properly matched load so I don't run my SVT with my sealed 8 ohm 4x10. Sounds great with my V4 though...

Yeah, I ran my head through two 8 ohm cabs years ago unbeknownst to me for a period of time (cut an SVT cab in half) and it just didn't sound right, less power and punch and I went through a new set of Groove tubes a lot quicker than I should have so i always make sure i have the proper load on it now.

I had an original one years ago and it had a good sound, not as good as an SVT but it did sound good, the problem I had with it was that it didn't have much head room. So I guess what I am asking is why would anyone buy a V4-B when they can have an SVT?

V4B is $1299, SVT-CL is $1899, SVT-VR is $2199, HSVT-CL is $2399.

Maybe you should check out the V4B Reissue. It is a VERY LOUD 100 watts and has a bit more clean headroom than the vintage V4B. As far as tone goes it's every bit as good as an SVT. JMHO

As it turns out most of the tolex is only held on with gaffers tape. As I removed the tape a lot of the tolex fell off. I would love to remove all of it, sand down the cab and stain it. Then add the AV cloth. How involved is it to pull out all the drivers and all the hardware? I've also read a couple threads where they use duratex or redo the tolex. Any thoughts?

You might find this thread of interest: SVT810E Refinish

Duratex is a good product and, if you can roll paint, it is easy to work with. You have to prep the surface so that the coating will not reveal flaws in the wood.

Removing the hardware is not a problem, as long as you don't do something boneheaded such as stick your finger through a speaker. Just take your time. It's a fun project and leaves you with something that you can look back at with pride.

Thanks for the link, good read. That seems like a pretty easy project. I'm still considering staining it but I've got to much on my plate with home projects.

I rebuilt the garage last year and put in industrial pallets racks thankfully the lowest shelf on one rack is just tall enough, so she is easy tucked out of the way for now!

I figure I can post this pick as my V4b is in the pic. Just finished cutting and gluing/nailing in my moldings in my practice room. The 810 will likely never gain entry.

Do you guys know from where I could get the V4B Reissue schematics? Ampeg does only give them to authorized service centers.

I think it is a good idea to have them available in case some service will be required in a few years.

I am an electronics technician. Just in case you are worried. I (normally) know what I am doing...

How do the B115E cabs sound with the V4B compared to the SVT212AV cab? I'm very interested in a 215 cab or 2 115 cabs with the V4B. I would rather have a 215 cab but they seem hard to come by these days.

The B115E's don't have a horn and they are a bit deeper sounding - they are a lot like the SVT-15E - but lighter weight. They have been out of production for a while, so they are not that easy to find. Guitar Center often has one or two available on their "used" website - but they are usually over-priced (after shipping/tax).

I also want a 2-15. I had plans to make one based on the B115E - but I put those plans on hold when I purchased a really cheap B25B 215 fixer-upper cab on my local CraigsList. I like the sound of the B115's better though - and the B25B cab is a bit awkward if I am doing a gig where I need to bring more then a bass amp - because it is so wide I cannot put it on it's side in my station wagon - so I still may end up building the custom "B215E" cab.
