2013 Ampeg V-4B 100W Reissue Pt2

Last night reminded me why the V4B/212AV is still my #1 rig...
I gigged my V4B/212AV rig at a local bar... 80-100 seats maybe, no PA support. I'm reminded how much I love this setup. Deep switch on, Gain 11pm, Bass at 1pm, Master 1pm. Filled the room with really great tone amplifying a Sadowsky Metro P/J 5.
It has been a few months I've played the V4B since I was getting to know a Mesa D-800 with my old Berg CN212. That's a great rig if the stage is small, but Ampeg reminded me last night why it gets first bill. I still want a second 212AV cab... hopefully soon.

Played a gig last night on the 410HLF with the a new group and it was a bit boomy for their sound. After an afternoon w the 212 I am very pleased w the tone. A very full and articulate sound. As stated throughout the thread, it pairs very well with the V4B.
The 212AV is really a nice cabinet, sounds really good whether paired with a V4B, an SVT or any other amp I've tried, and size-wise it's just right for most any small to medium gig I do.
I really like the V4B...round and smooth but still punchy, sweet, buttery and ballsy sound

So I am going to get an 810 to pair with my V4b, I let a heritage pass that was a little long distance for a local sale. Close by I have the opportunity to grab a standard 810e, a bit beat up but totaly functional for $375 or local store has a used Heritage they're asking $800. Being this cab will live in the garage and only be used 8-10 times per year I'm leaning toward the bargain. Is that the right move?
The sound difference is small but the price difference here is big so Yes I think it's the right move if the 810e doesn't have any problems...
Up until 2008, 5th digit of the serial number on the jack plate is a code that stands for the year:
A: 1988
B: 1989
Etc. So any 810e's St. Louis Music made between 2000-06 will use the range between M and S.

The modern Ampegs of the St. Louis Music era were all made after 1985. The amps made since 1988 have a 10-digit serial number which is encoded for model, country, date, and year. The serial number can be broken down as follows:
Digits 1, 2, 3 = Model
Digit 4 = Country Code where:
U = U.K.
D = domestic U.S.
W = worldwide
Y = Europe
Digit 5 = Year where:
A = 1988
B = 1989
C = 1990, etc.
Digit 6 = Month where:
1 through 9 = January through September
0 = October
A = November
B = December
Digits 7, 8, 9, 10 = serial number

Thank you all, I called the seller, gonna stop by tomorrow and pick it up from him. He says there is no serial number on the jack plate, but for $375 I'll roll the dice, if it sounds good I will give it a shot...
Did you ever find the source of the rattle?
I am hearing a definite rattle (or more like a poompf type sound on the back of the cab at low frequencies. It is going back anyway since it showed up like it was delivered by a tornado. Big dent in the front so I suspect the integrity of the cab is compromised with the amount of abuse it looks to have taken

There is a wooden brace that connects the speaker baffle to the rear panel. My first guess is that yours came loose on the back side when the cab was dropped.
Most SLM made 810s have made in USA in St. LOUIS Missouri on em too. The later Asian made ones have the origin of build on em too. Mine's a Made in P.R.C. and is lighter weight and lighter sounding.
Going to look at it this afternoon, seller says there is no serial # on the jackplate, either it has been removed or it is somewhere else. Where else on the cab can I look?
If the tolex has any tears, look for chipboard vs plywood. The baffle is always plywood. The darker cabs were chipboard. They also can develop problems with the casters punching through the bottom if they are dropped.
The chipboard vs plywood thickness is also different, I forget the exact dimensions but you can visually tell a difference if you had an SLM and post SLM era cabs.
I've searched on this thread but let me ask this again just to be completely sure:
can the v4b reissue be wired to work with 220v? I'll be returning to argentina with this amp and was wondering if the transformer the ampeg has is for export. This would mean that by rewiring + changing fuses & cord, no external transformer would be needed?
I apologize for re asking this, but it was asked for 240v not 220v
Will this be changing the sound of the amp???
