Isles gutted one out against the flyers in OT to stay in first by a point in the Metro. They had lost their previous three.
I think the Islanders are finding out just how important Kyle Okposo is to the lineup. (he's out the next 5-7 weeks, detached retina).
He was red hot before he got hurt, but he does a lot of those intangibles that don't show up on the stat sheet.
Hope they can find a combo that works 'till he gets back.
Zulu...sometimes I think somebody nudges Potvin during the broadcasts and says to him..."We hired you to be a homer, remember?"
If you think he's bad, have you heard a Pens home broadcast?

Eh, no offense taken. I don't pay much attention to the broadcasters when I am watching a game. I've listened to a few Pens games on the radio, and I do like Lange.
Fleury with back to back shutouts, setting a team season shutout record, and extends his scoreless streak to 131+ minutes. Crosby is slowing heating up, which may be good timing. On to Vancouver to close out the western swing in America's hat.

B's -Habs tonight. Rask played last night so there is a chance that Malcolm Subban may get the start in goal tonight against his big brother P.K. It is the nbc national game. B's are still playing pretty well but Montreal has had our number for a while, so this will be another good test for the B's.
Rask was very good last night, stopping 39 of 40, denying some pretty good scoring chances.
He was the difference vs the NYI.
Seriously, I don't know how the Wings manage to get so little coverage/buzz. If we could win a freaking shootout every once in a while, we'd be on top of the whole League. That aside, I'm more confident with our current goalie situation than I have been in years, and the regular contributions we get from Grand Rapids has been great, as always.
No Malcom in the middle of goal, but the same result, Habs win 3-1 with an empty netter, they were in control ptetty much the whole game.

Mtl had a lot more good scoring chances even though the SOG are equal.

I meant Montreal - I'm not that much of a homer, mon ami

The only good news for the B's was that they held the score down (better than the 6-4 or 5-1 thrashings from earlier in the season) and Pastrnak played well and chipped in a goal - his first in awhile. The bad news for the B's is that even with the whole team healthy, they have major trouble with Montreal.It will be interesting to see if the B's go out and try to get the right wing replacement for Iginla that they have needed all season.

Well bummer. On Saturday in Vancouver, the Pens decided to save some goals for future games, then give up a few to make up for the previous two shutouts. That was not a fun game if you like the Pens.

Looking at the standings - if the SCP started tomorrow 4 of the 7 Canadian teams would be in (Montreal, Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Calgary). Of the four, I'd like Montreal's chances the best, the west is a beast.
I'd have to agree--I don't know if the other three will stay in a playoff spot or not--but I don't expect any of them to get to the finals. they'd have to get really hot.
Montreal could do it, especially if Price is healthy & steals a game or two.
Might be a little bias creeping in here, but the Flames might surprise a lot of people if they stay healthy and they keep building in confidence. It's usually the team with Mo that wins championships, and they just might peak at the right time. I went to the Pens game on Fri. The Flames got smoked 4-0, but I think that was probably more due to the Pens having a great game, not so much Calgary having a poor one. They (and goaltender Hiller) were able to rebound nicely - looked really good beating the Sharks 3-1 last night. The Flames organization made this a "dad's road trip" - they did the same last swing through CA. The organization rented 2 boxes = 16 dads watching their son's play, dinner the night before, sons/dads golf today in LA. The Flames are now 16-4 against their inter division rivals, another thing that bodes well heading towards the playoffs. With that one win last night they were able to pass the Canucks and the Sharks into 2nd place in the Pacific. Hopefully they'll be able to follow through with a win against LA Thur. night on the last game of this short road trip before meeting the Canucks Sat. night at the 'Dome. I'll be there for that one - hope that they makeup for the shellacking we witnessed on Friday!
That dad's road trip sounds like fun - too bad my son doesn't skate much better than I do (and I can basically skate forward but the backward and turning and stopping leave a lot to be desired).
I like seeing the Alberta and Manitoba teams do well - the fans out there deserve to see contenders.
