2017 Gibson EB redesign

I would have to see one in person before thinking about those very much. Considering that I already have a few Gibson bass guitars I'm happy with, I would probably pass. If I wanted a fiver, that might be an option, pending trying it on for size. I don't like the long upper horn, since that will get in the way of hanging it like I prefer.

This reminds me of the 80's Gibson bass offerings. Like the Victory or whatever that thing was called.

I have a Victory and like it. At least it's reasonably original, not just copying the competition. This new one is utterly uninteresting.

At least the Victory had its own unique style. This looks like they just gave up and copied other brands like bholder said.

Yeah, the headstock is victoryesque, which I guess was in turn t-birdesque. I'd bust on them for copyinging G&L/EBMM with a little Lakland thrown in, but G&L and EBMM are busy making p's and j's and pj's now, so who cares?

Funny you should mention the "originality" of that bass. It was specifically designed to be as P bass as they could get away with and not be a P bass.

What it means is you can only get 2 tones from the bass.

Gibson does great guitars. They never have quite got the bass thing down.

Best I've seen from Gibson in a good while. To be fair, I've never liked the look of any Gibson bass except the SG, and the previous EB was the low point, as far as I'm concerned. I take the new design as a hopeful sign that Gibson is on the rise, even though they might not be quite there yet.

I really don't like it. If I had to buy an EB bass in 2017... it would be a second (for me) 2014 model. Sigh.
Gibsons are about original/werid/quirky designs at times. That one looks totally anemic to me.
The only interesting thing to me is the price point, considering the brand. But... with a gig bag?

I really liked the previous EB and still may pick one up down the road, but this does nothing for me.

I played an EB once and the thump was delightful. I don't know how it might compare if they're using humbuckers.

I use a '74 G3 Grabber as my go to 4 string, and have had it for a long long time and love everything about the bass with regard to sound, look, feel.

That said, I will be the first to admit that Gibson really sucks at bass manufacturing with the exception of few brief moments in time.

It looks to have a relatively small body, which I like. In that respect it is similar to the Victory, which is by far my favorite Gibson design.

Overall I don't mind the looks but I'd like to see and play a 4 string version before passing judgment.

Compared to previous Gibson basses, it appears to be reasonably priced.
