2019 Gear Purchase Plans

I'm shedding (molting might be a better word) some of my old gear and lusting after a class D head to lighten the load, somewhat, I still have to schlep a couple of heavy cabs. Currently leaning toward the Aguilar TH 500 but that Mesa gets my mouse finger clicking too. Happy new gear.

If I buy anything it will be a Subway 210 cab, but I'm trying really hard to avoid buying anything at all this year. There is a lot of uncertainty at my job and my daughter is off to college this upcoming Fall. Who knows though... things always can change.

I have one - they’re nice. My daughter just graduated college!! Yay! I feel your pain.

-Really silly Warmoth project. Plan is to make a 32” scale ‘54 style bass. Warmoth doesn’t make the tele headstock style or tele body routes for short scale (only the pickup route), so I’ll be making some of the routes and cutting the pickguard and shaping the headstock. Not hard but nerve wracking given the cost of the wood. Time consuming and I’ve been practicing a ton lately! Still on the fence with this.

While I'm totally supportive of DIY efforts (I have an EUB that's been in-process for over 10 years), and these may not hit all of your buttons, I can't recommend Brad Lowe's (@BeeTL ) 32" scale necks highly enough--I purchased a tele headstock version a few years ago). I already made two bass purchases this year already. A mid 99 Spector NS-4cr a week ago and an impulse buy on Saturday from guitar center. A Spector Mike Starr signature bass. Hopefully that arrives on Thursday.
Only thing else I plan on buying so far is a HAZ preamp clone. I am on the waiting list for that though. Need to sell a few things to pay off the purchases. lol Hopefully I can keep the GAS at bay.

Pretty much have everything I need. More woodshedding and lessons and sniff around the scene for any bands needing a bass player.

Maybe later on in the year a Squier fretless and a Kala U bass to round out the collection. Hardly bank breakers but my house may need a new roof this year!!

I have a go to high end bass (Birdsong Cbass, pictured in my profile) that I can't put down. Also have a nice backup but I don't want to play it! My plan (tentatively) is to move the backup and get a not quite so high end bass as a backup, while saving some money in the process.

2019 Gear Purchase Plans
Right now no plans for any purchases. In fact, 2019 may be the year of "right-sizing" for me; whittling down to three or four basses max. I looked back through my posts and pics from last year to see which basses were used most and those will be the ones I keep. I've already begun actually with the Lakland 55-02 I currently have up for sale in the classifieds.

I bought 5 basses last year so I'm set there, I think, but GAS has a way of finding me.

I haven't played out with my own gear in 3 years (long story, girlfriend related ). I'm 67 and have a bad back (displaced lumbar vertebrate). I THINK I'll be OK with my 30 lb. Acoustic BN112's but I'm tempted to buy two Aguilar SL 112's at only 25 lbs. each.

By the way, I'm moving back to Indy in March and think I can get my old band jobs back. :hyper::hyper::hyper:

Not too much. I plan to finish my Warmoth build for a 5 String Deluxe Jazz J+MM. I've had the body since the summer of '18, I ordered the neck finally in Dec. I'll order pickups and preamp in about Feb-Mar, then a few other odds and ends needed.

Evaluating an amp purchase, I might buy nothing, or I might end up moving my vintage tube Bassman in favor of a Rumble 500 combo, tried one and was extremely impressed.

There is one effects purchase I want to make, some kind of modulation pedal. Reverb, delay, chorus perhaps. Not 100% set on what it will be or if anything will work. Trying out an Afterlife Reverb first, will see how it goes.

Otherwise my only other plan is my NEXT guitar build for a '54 style P with split coils. Would like to start ordering pieces late in '19.

I should revisit this in a number of months, but as of now i honestly have no plans.

I do need a back up (in the $300 range, carbon fiber probably?) bass bow to leave at work. for bass guitar, honestly I don't forsee anything. that will probably chance... but who knows.

I've also bought and sold 2 of everything at this point. I can't think of much i can go for that i have not already owned.

At some point I’d like to pick up an Abominable Electronics Hail Satan Deluxe. That’s really it. I’m happy with my amp rig, and I went on a bit of a pedal binge and bought the one remaining bass I really wanted in these past few weeks.

Edit: DAMN IT! Now the Thunderbird thread has me thinking about an Epiphone Embassy. I probably won’t go for it, but daaaaamn am I tempted.
