2019 Gear Purchase Plans

I plan on getting an Ampeg PF-50t head & matching 1x15" cab, and a Fender Adam Clayton Jazz Bass in purple sparkle.

bass gear-wise, probably just strings. i'm a diy guy so i've already added a preamp to by '85 rb850 and have plans to add one to my p/j/blacktop mashup. i guess i also bought a set of 4 matching knobs for the ibanez. maybe a battery compartment if i can't fit a 9v in the p

really so far i've just discovered how much i dig playing my first bass (the ibanez) out of my terror bass head... don't think i had tried that before last week. so rediscovering old gear, i guess ;)

hi RichSnyder :)

planned for 2019

It' s always good to have a plan!

I've always wanted a walnut or mocha brown P bass

Viva the 70s! I can feel you!

I would like to have a wine red P with a black pg! :hyper:

Mod Shop is a bit of a ripoff.

Yep! Way to expensive for what they are (IMO of course)

Maybe look for something to refin?

Last summer I stumbled over a MIJ P bass for 150!!!! Euros (after haggling).
Would have been a great platform to mod and do a refin but...
We agreed that I would pick it up later…. :banghead:

When I came back the bass was gone! :crying: Someone had payed 500!

Lesson learned! You better have a plan!

may the bass be with you

Wise(b)ass

P.S and now I will read about all those plans on 6 pages :hyper:

Have a couple of MTD 6-strings on order that I should take possession of in July. Interested in getting that Strandberg Boden Bass when it's released, depending on price point. Was talking to local dealer today about Dingwall NG-3 6-string, since they're finally shipping, but we'll see.

I think being in the black is my overall plan. In the last two years I've acquired two 'main' basses (Fender AC Jazz & Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ) - both of which I really love. My third is a Squier P (CV Fiesta Red), which will maybe get a new pickup. Otherwise, it's great stock with a set of flats. This trifecta has me wanting to focus completely on a practice regimen and really getting to know the quirks of the Skyline.

Happy with my amp setup & I think I'm finally hitting the end of the pedal craze.

If a local deal comes along for Lakland DJ4 or a nice Hofner, I would consider. But it would have to be a perfect storm of price, timing, and an absolute player. I do also want to test drive a Dingwall if I find one local in the Denver area. For the time being though, it feels good to be satisfied with my gear.

Oh yeah - I do want to buy a soldering iron. I consider that part of my gear since I'll use it to make, fix, and mod things...

I'd like to cobble together a 34" scale P bass with a jazz neck. A Duck Dunn bass, if you will. Maybe 2tsb with tort, rosewood board with block inlays. For that vibe. (If money were no object it'd be a rosewood neck)

2018 ended with acquiring a Starfire II and a Jazz V (first long scale I've had since saying goodbye to my Geddy) so I'm fixing to get some TI flats (Chrome's are available locally but I just.. I dunno..) for the Guild and I want a tort guard on the jazz (it's white and sporting black at the moment).

I'd like way too many effects pedals. We won't get into all that. My palms are sweating just thinking about it.

Then it comes down to a rig. I've been quite happy with my iPad and the insane amount of music creation and modeling contained within but...

Maybe a PJB briefcase? Trace Elf/208? Used walkabout combo?

I like utility. I live in an apartment and am a conscientious neighbor. I don't gig. I have access to a couple fine rigs at a studio. I just want the ability to grab something that *can* push some air, not break my back, and sounds good at low volumes, which I think is the harder part of my wants.

I'm sitting back and waiting to see what comes of this conversation. Something is cooking in Andy's big brain. ( @agedhorse ) I can smell it.

Favorite Mesa Boogie Tube Bass Amps

It's a pretty cool thread if you have the time.
Lots of new (and old) ideas in this spitball session. I think whatever is cooking will wind up with some of both.

I'm 99% sure this will be "my Mesa year.

Been looking for too long for some of their heads...Strategy, or M6 Carbine...those two are driving me insane. Both discontinued, though. Maybe I'll wait and see what comes in the next months. The WD-800 is not clicking with me and I don't know why...

Regarding bass: Pedal preamps and pedals is most likely where I'm at this year. Maybe one bass, if I find the right one.

Nylon string guitar related: A new, better quality crossover guitar at some point. Unless I find a ridiculous deal for the Gibson Chet Atkins solid body somewhere.

Slowly building up funds from some end of year gigs and have a nice starting point. Just traded a Lakland DD for a Decade (both Skylines, calm down) and hoping to pick up a L1000 (vintage or CLF) or SB-1 with the aforementioned funds. There is a new CLF L-1000 relatively nearby, so I'll have to go check that out. I haven't had a new bass in 10 years until this Decade I just got. Maybe I'll have 3 basses total shortly.

Not bass related:
An RMC piezo saddle and outboard preamp set for a bandmate's uke (funded collectively). The uke will be also getting an adjustable bridge of my own design, which was the actual reason to choose the RMC system. An exciting project that may or may not work out in the end.

Bass related:
Maybe a pickup upgrade and a neck pickup install for my Fernandes Atlas 5x. I'm thinking about Nordstrands but also entertaining the possibility of MFDs, which however are of a slightly different shape (no ears) and so will require a larger pickguard.

I have 3 hopeful targets for 2019. Hope is one thing; seeing them actualized will be quite another. All 3 will be from New York state.

  • US Spector 6 (model to be determined). Yes, I'm aware of the recent Korg merger but I still plan to go ahead.
  • Sadowsky Satin Series in Sage Green Metallic, yet I'm still undecided whether it will be a Modern 5/24 or Vintage 5/21.
  • And "Classified" until/unless I actually place a deposit.
