Hey folks, I am toying with the idea of trading my big box Octabvre MkI for one of the newer MKIIIs, but was curious on whether this would be a good move. I'd like to save a bit of space on my board so the MKIII seems appealing from that standpoint. It seems like the big box ones are worth more currently, is that the consensus?

I wouldn't trade a MKI until I had my hands on a MK3.33 and could compare myself.

If you do proceed, know that a MKI commands a good price, but nothing like what a MKII does. Keep that in mind when determining value. As far as consensus, I'd say it's far too early to know where the market will land on M3.33s and if/how that will affect MKIs. There's a limited number of MKIs (only 500) and he's not going to make more, but the MKI was superseded by the MKII (which also has a limited number: only 800). The MKIII did not supersede the MKII (the consensus is they sound different and the MKII is superior), but it does offer a smaller footprint. The consensus jury is still out on how the MK3.33 compares to the MKIII, but we do know that although there are only 333 MK3.33s (maybe 334 if the Phish prototype isn't considered part of the first batch), Spencer will be making more in a matter of months. If he's going to build these in numbers like he has the Proton MK4 and Doom 2, then the MKI will remain quite scarce relative to the MK3.33. Ultimately, though, scarcity doesn't generate nearly as much demand as quality. The MKI has proven quality—and, crucially, you know you like it—which is why, if I were you, I would wait until I could compare with a MK3.33 before giving it up in trade.

It sucks being sick. Nothing wrong with that impacting one's productivity. If there's something to criticize here, it's that he shouldn't have released the MK3.33s as early as he did since he clearly needed a lot more time to build all 333. I know he normally takes a couple weeks to ship so he's already toeing the line between order and pre-order, but this now feels like a full-on pre-order situation. In the future it would be best to note that reality at the time of order (or to hold off on releasing the batch until production is further along), but I don't mind the wait since he's been sufficiently transparent in his communication for me. Though I'll admit it's no fun seeing a bunch of people posting their M3.33s and even demoing them when I have yet to receive a shipping notification.

Totally agree with your reply. I’m being a snot - admittedly on purpose.

It was a pre-order and ship as they’re built it but not by order number.

Glad to see peeps still happy to keep ordering and the juice worth the squeeze, etc.

The new October seems less dark and better defined but less synth-like from a lesser point of view. What do you think?

totally agree. I like the octave sound on the 3.33 better but the synth on the 3 seems to be clearer

That's great advice, thank you! I will wait until I can pick up a MK3.33, do a shootout, and sell whichever doesn't make the cut.

@macieq - Thanks for that comparison. It confirms my thinking that the mids on my MkIII are a bit nasally, and I'm definitely liking the sound of the Mk3.33 better from your A/B. Mine should be here tomorrow, looking forward to trying it out.

@macieq - Thanks for that comparison. It confirms my thinking that the mids on my MkIII are a bit nasally, and I'm definitely liking the sound of the Mk3.33 better from your A/B. Mine should be here tomorrow, looking forward to trying it out.

I agree with your assessment. I also prefer the 3.33 on this video. I’d rather have more low mids than the high mids on the 3. Still waiting for mine. Can’t wait to try it on a gig though my GR bass 2x12 cab!

Is the 3.33 version a limited edition or is he going to release it in the future at some time? Is there be another release or how is this handled?

Spencer said he will reissue the 3.33 in July.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page it shows a July drop of 333 pedals. The last batch of 333 sold out in under 2 minutes. Hardly enough time to type your shipping address in and pay. If you’re serious about getting one, I would suggest getting on the mailing list. It will give a day/time of the drop. And then you just refresh the page non stop and type fast!

Every board you have is just packed to the gills with killer pedals and nicely organized and uniform. Nice work.

How do you stop yourself from making a bigger board with more options? Do you have specific boards for different bands or use cases?
