3Leaf Audio Club - Episode 2

Here is setting I have been loving it. Run it through a nice verb when taking a solo and It makes the bass sound like a fretless. It also sounds incredibly barky and cool in a grooving context.

The Gray DOOM 2 is the only version to use Zinc Sulfide (NightGlo phosphorescent pigments).
Here is the Gray version in the dark (it glows less in person) :

A couple of years ago I mentioned in the thread that I was having a pedal refinished and I would post details when the pedal was back. Well, it's back! Following a convoluted backstory I ended up with a Chromatron with a battered housing that was losing its graphics. I reached out to Zac Sweeney at Malaise Forever and asked if he would be willing to finish it however he liked because I love his designs. That was in May 2023. A lot has happened with Malaise Forever shutting down and then reopening in a different form; there were times I wasn't sure I would see the pedal again so it made opening the box yesterday very sweet. I've posted a few photos of the finished article below (and, as a bonus, I now have a box for the pedal!).

Have you fiddled with the recording sampling rate? Other than that, trying another sound interface in your setup could help troubleshooting.

YMMV on the exact numbers but my main point remains, maybe you have the buffer size set too short.

Following up on this: I recorded some Broughton Audio and Damnation Audio samples this morning, and before doing so I increased the buffer size in my DAW. No more clicks - thanks, all!

That's a Doom 2 in Blood Red finish from June 2023. It has the newer voicing. I would not say the newer units are preferable. Both sound good, just a little different. You can hear the differences in this post.

Sure looks like red ink to me, but maybe the white balance is off in that photo. The white box (assuming it is original) also means it's Blood Red and not Bronze Age. Beginning with the Jade Metallic, all Doom 2s come in brown boxes (actually, if I recall correctly, all 3 Leaf pedals beginning with the Royal Proton have come in brown boxes).

This distinction is meaningless, though. Whatever color the ink is, the unit in question has the newer voicing. The 304 stainless steel enclosure communicates that.

EDIT: another way to confirm what it is: have the seller open it up and tell you the serial number. If it's between 601 and 700, then it's Blood Red; if it's between 1 and 100 and says that number out of 100, then it's Bronze Age. (The Blood Red Doom 2s continued the numbering of earlier releases, but beginning with the Jade Metallic each Doom 2 release has had numbering limited to the release itself.)

Thanks for the info, but the above photo I posted is not the bronze one. It's the first one I was thinking about buying. The bronze is the second one I found. I have confirmed it from the March 2025 batch. I went ahead and bought it. I already have a 3.33 Octabvre and a Wonderlove so I'm getting the Doom 2 to complete the much-loved trifecta. I owned the original Your Doomed years ago but didn't bond with it. Hopefully this 2025 version will win my over. Here is the Bronze Age one I just bought off Reverb...

I pulled out my GR-2 signed by Bootsy Collins - I got a pedalboard that allows me to attach pedals without velcro. Used it with the improv band I've been subbing for - can here it at 2:17 with MXR Bass Octave Deluxe in front, then at 3:41 add Blumes distortion.



Bass is my Alembicized Fender Japan PJ Bass with Moses graphite neck and Hipshot X-Tender thru various effects including JHS Punchline amp sim, direct into the board.

Do all of the stainless enclosure Doom 2's from the last few years have the new voicing? Asking out of curiosity cause I have one stainless and one of the older black ones and never noticed a difference. But I favor the lower-gain settings, so maybe that's why I didn't notice?

Hmm, could be. If you set them to have the same gain (meaning the gain knob on your stainless is lower than on your Black Oxide), then the differences may not be as pronounced. It's not a massive difference (it's the same pedal, after all), but it does exist and I think the original voicing sounds better at lower gain. How do you set your mids? I find that has a big effect on the Doom 2's character, and if you have the midrange turned down maybe that's masking the difference. You should also be able to hear how much more gain the revoiced version supplies if you dime both gain knobs.
