50w-100w Valve Owners Thread

This is my 100 W stack. I got the second DB212 today. I am really surprised at how much more volume it provides. These decibels were not cheap, and I waited for the cab for 4 months...

It's been quite a gear week for you! The Tele bass and now the cabinet. Very cool!
I just have been working too hard the last couple of weeks and needed the compensation... A week ago there was this fretless G&L L-2000 too that I e-bayed...
Looking forward to trying my V4B through the new Portaflex 1x15 cab for kicks... if Ampeg ever ships them.

I think I'm a bit more biased toward the 2000s because I owned the head at one point. Does the 2000s or the V-4B break up earlier? I've only played on a 2000s and a SVT (not a V4)
my '73 V4 (modded w/ 6550's) and my '77 B25B (loaded w/Eminence Delta 15A)

The V4 doesn't break up earlier if you use the right cab.
before my B25B, i had a SVT410HLF wich was boomy and break up easily. really night and day!

The 100w V4 with 4xEL34 tubes breaks up earlier than the ~180w-200w Sunn 2000S with 4x6550 tubes.
I've played both but it's tough to choose between them. I give a slight edge to the Sunn. Both amps have different flavors of awesome. Get both if you can.
I've been playing about with my Jansen Bassman 50 for a few days now.
It doesn't break up. I crank it way further than I should with neighbours 60 ft away and it's shaking the whole house with lovely warm clean bass. Maybe if I take it to a gig where I can really let loose it will start to grind. It's modded a little with 7027A valves intended for a 75W amp. Might have something to do with it?
Question for ya tubeheads. When I turn the off/on to "on" ( standby is left "off") the first 12ax7 in the preamp flashes bright briefly like a lightbulb flicked on and off. The 2nd one does same but to a lesser degree. Not good?
Other thing is it has a very mild 50Hz main supply hum which is diminished to almost nothing if I ground the chassis with a finger. Does this mean I have an ungrounded chassis, potential deathtrap?

I just picked up a B25B for CHEAP. You have any experience running the V4B through that cab with the stock speakers?
The B25B cab (except the first year) comes with a 4/16 ohm switch, should sound great with the V4. I like mine with my SVT, but I also have delta 15's in mine since the stock speakers were toast when I got the cab.
Very rare to see a V4 with EL34s. They came stock with 7027As, when those went out of production people either switched to 6L6's or had the amps modded for 6550s. I have heard of them being modded for EL34s, but only once or twice.
