8x15 Can't Wait

Back in the day, a guy named Pat Quilter built and marketed a cab called the Big Bertha.

4 x 15 cab, altec 421a's if I remember. Mr. Quilter went on to eventually form QSC.

As a side note: It would be interesting to know how many eminence 3015's it would take to match the displacement of those 8 421's. 2, maybe 3?
 
For those saying that it's impractical... yes, it is, obviously.

Think about it for a second. The OP is planning on building an 8x15.

Do you really think he's all that concerned by practicality? I would say it's pretty clear that he doesn't give a damn about how practical it is. I mean, just a hunch, based on the fact that he's even considering building an 8x15. People who care about the practicality of a bass rig, generally speaking, don't think to themselves "Hmmm, I should build a single cab with eight 15" speakers." And if they do, they generally don't go forward with the idea, deciding "Yes, I am actually going to build this gigantic cab." That he's even considered and then decided on building an 8x15 kinda seems to indicate that practicality has already been considered and dismissed as a concern.

Kinda reminds me of rbonner's rig. Ludicrously impractical, but also completely awesome.
 
Just from a design/engineering standpoint this is incredibly impractical and failure-prone. to build such a cab strong enough to do what it needs to do you would need a massive internal framework. If you did this, you had better decide on where its gonna sit, because it ain't getting moved.. If you REALLY want 8-15's the only somewhat practical way is individual cabs..

seriously, tho. what sort of force would that baffle be facing with something like this at high spl? i remember seeing mythbusters test the car window myth. they popped out the weather stripping on a mercedes sel (not a cheap or cheaply built car) with 120 db (yeah, it was at 16hz, but still). for real how huge would this thing have to be? my best guess-- minimum 60 cubic feet, vented. i'm in northern KY so i might have to try and see this thing with my own bass---i mean eyes. pm me when you're done!!!!!
