8x15 Can't Wait

IMO, it's really not that impractical. here's my 8x15 rig (two acoustic 408 4x15 cabs):

well your wrong, an expert said it's impratical

While having an 8x15 would be kind of cool just for the sheer scale of it, it would be pretty ******** too.

Considering decent modern drivers, you could maybe expect to put about 300w to each one, or 2400w total. Which with that many drivers would be ******** loud. Like too loud to actually play anywhere but an arena or stadium. So besides the ridiculousness of it, it'd be pretty silly to even bother.

It would look cool. That's reason enough right there. Hey, I use small rigs too, but sorry, bigass rigs will always be cool. They don't have to be running full out, and really, they don't have to be running at all for me to like them. I totally like looking at a wall of nice gear at a rock concert. And whenever someone dumps on the big rigs, I wonder if Van Halen would have had the same effect on a crowd if Eddie would have played through a Fender Champ and Mikey only used a DI. And then I think the people who dumped on the big rigs just moved 2 points closer to nerd-dom.

expert, schmex-pert. there's nothing quite like playing on a huge outdoor stage or arena thru two 4x15 cabs.

i suppose that an 'expert' can be happy with a super-duper high xmax single 10" or 12" neo cab, but he's not really going to be moving very much air. ;)

Dude, I work in Reynoldsburg so if I hear a HUGE BOOM, either a plane crashed or you achieved climax! BTW, if this happens, PM me with your address because I'm at your house playing this thing when this exists!!!

I work in Westerville, and I would also like to see/ play through this monstrosity when it is done!

If you're working with a real touring pro-sound company you won't be able to run them all that loud anyway, because all that accomplishes is to screw up the works with both stage levels and PA/backline balance. You will turn it down. It's not your call, it's the stage manager's. That being the case if you really need something to impress the bejesus out of the kiddies just make your rig along the lines of this:

No one's mad. Some are supportive. OTOH some are logical.

Exactly. I think the OP was looking at the industry standard (810) and thinking, "hey lets make that better by putting 15" speakers in a cab that way, it will great and loud!" But with a little further examination, one comes to the conclusion that an 810 isnt a great design, despite the fact that so many companies produce that kind of cab or that so many people use it. This mean that expanding it to use 15" speakers is no better of a design, and pushes impracticality to a certain limit.

For the same reasons I wouldnt encourage anyone to build an 810, I wont encourage an 815. There are better options out there that are still loud, way more manageable, and sound a lot better, and will sound way better when you are actually playing with someone else.
