Acme Users Unite!!!

Hey, a little late here, but I recently picked up 2 8 ohm Acme B1's. I wanted to replace my eden 210 xlt since it was a bit heavy/bulky and I double on keys and wanted a full range cab.

The B1's are great for portability. Easy to carry, light. I use one for rehearsals and two for gigs.

Sound is also great. I get compliments from almost everyone on how loud and low these things are. btw, no metal here just some jazz, blues & rock. I use an eden WT400 head (think it's 400w into 4 ohms)

They make my Nord electro piano sing. Honestly, I'm hearing overtones that weren't there before (I used to use a JBL 12 in monitor).

The only small issue is that the duratec coating is pretty easy to chip off. Haven't been throwing them around, but am now noticing some major chips in the surface. Suppose they could be repaired with more gunk...

I was recently invited to a local musician's birthday party, attended by a bunch of hot-shot players. It was my first time using my recently acquired used 4-ohm B2 in public, and I was lovin' the tone and the way it sat in the mix. Got compliments from the other players, but most important was that we got the whole room dancing and the neighbors started coming over to join in!:bassist:

Hello Everybody,

I've noticed some comments about the Duratex finish on the Series III cabs being able to be chipped off. What do you think of the idea of touch-up kits? The stuff is actually easy to work with, and cleans up with water.

Does this sound like something you'd appreciate? It seems reasonable to offer such a thing for free, at least for the duration of the two-year warranty period.

Whaddya think?

Thanks,
Andy

Speakerhardware.com sells a pint of duratex with a small roller for around 15ish bucks. Maybe offer a similar package in a lesser quantity? Its cheaper and faster than shipping a cab to be touched up.

I was thinking about 1 or 2 ounces and a couple of Q-tips. That could actually do the trick, in most cases, I think.

Thanks,

Good morning Andy. It is always great when the builders become part of the community here. A touch up kit is a great idea for the finish. I also have a couple of chips in one of my cabinets in spite of being carried only by me and transported in my car.

Hey Andy, welcome to TB!

I'm recording with my Flatwound next week in a cabin up in VT, so I'll try to post some pics of the setup! The single driver makes it a GREAT cab for mic'ing...I'll be using a Beta 52 and SM57 (for a little bite). Wish me luck!

Great! Glad you're enjoying the thing! Got an extra room at the cabin?

Do you run a line, in addition to your miked signal?

Thanks,
Andy

I will run a direct line as well, I'm putting everything into an Apogee Quartet which has 4 inputs to play with. I've never used two mic's before, but I have done one + DI. Since I have enough inputs though, I figured I'd use all three signals and try to keep them in phase.

Oh and if it was my cabin you'd be more than welcome :D

I too would like to welcome you Andy. Both of my Series I and Series II pairs of B2s are still running beautifully. The change I would desire is to neo drivers. :)

I would also like to publicly thank you for all the help you have given me in the past.

I've been trying to find a proper neo replacement for fot that 10" woofer for many years. So far, nada.

If at some point I'm successful, you'll be the first to know!

Thanks,
Andy

You should do it, Andy. Sometimes it's the little things like this that make all the difference - especially when it's such a relatively easy thing for you to provide, yet can make such a positive difference in your customers' overall product experience.

Creating an innovative and/or superior product generates buzz and stimulates sales via the early adopter and opinion leader networks. But supporting the product post-sale - even with little offerings such as this - builds loyalty & trust...and ultimately keeps customers coming back for more... :hmm:
