I honesty really like the Archer 4-string, as the Thunderbird-esque style would play really well with the aesthetics of my RD style body. But the 2x2 Nebula seems to be calling me :)

Those are hot. That archer would be sick on a rd. I quite like that 2x2 as well. I wonder when those would become available.

Pic of my TB2000 from the last gig I played. Was playing through the dual Hiwatt setup (DR405 into an 8x10 and the DR201 into the RE150 space echo that runs into the 4x12). My TB2000 continues to be the best bass I've ever played and through this setup, it just sounds unreal. My guitar players EGC 500 is incredible sounding as well. Lots of Aluminum neck love.

Congrats and wow - seldom have I seen a more jealousy-inducing setup than this, haha.

Aside from the aluminum neck, the pickup config on the TB2000s is so unique. I've had a plan for years to carve up a P bass body and install a pair of those Aero clones in the correct locations. Have you ever measured the center position of the pickups on the scale length? I'd be keen to know where they are if you have.

Thank you! It's the result of years and years of saving and trading up to get the current setup. I just wish it was easier to haul around ha ha.

I definitely agree that the pickups have just as much to do with how unique it sounds as the neck does. I've never taken those measurements but I'm sure I could, would just need to grab some measuring tape or a large ruler. If I get around to it sooner than later, I'd be more than happy to let you know what the measurements are.

Have you ever heard the Aero TB2000 clone pickups? I've always been curious as to what they are like.

No unfortunately - I'd love to but barely anyone seems to have them.

I think on most instruments you would have to significantly modify the bass to acommodate them, because they're designed to be mounted all the way through the body, like the original TB2000 pickups. That kinda only makes them viable if you were building a new body around them, willing to make substantial alterations to your existing bass body, or just needing a replacement pickup for an actual TB2000 pickup that went bad or something.

I figured that was the case with them. I spoke with Larry at Aero years ago about them and he said he can make an Aero AB4 pickup identical to the TB2000 pickup, it would just have the dimensions of a SCPB pickup. That would probably be the best option for a bass that doesn't have the same mount type as the TB2000. My curiosity is definitely peaked, I may need to order a set of the Aero TB2000 pickups just to justify a bass build that I can use them with ha ha.

Oh wow, that would actually be awesome! One of the other problems with putting TB2000 pickups on a normal bass is that the neck position is right against the edge of the fretboard, which then starts to cause structural problems if you've got a deep enough route close to the neck pocet. That looks like it would be a lot smaller footprint since it wouldn't have the whole surround there, beyond what the bobbins need. I may have to message him about that too!

The only glaring issue I’ve come across is neck dive- as long as the body you decide to use weighs enough to offset the weight of the neck, you’re good. I paired a Robot Graves neck with a super lightweight P body a few years ago and the neck dive was incredible to behold lol. You shouldn’t have this issue with an Aluminati neck though. Their necks are usually as light as they come. Really it boils down to what kind of pickups you want, P or J.

The Aluminati is the hollow core (4 inline ultra lite cut out) and it has Hipshot Ultra lite tuners. The Status Graphite is super light and will be wearing Gotoh Carbon-o-lites.

Not worried about neck dive. Looking for people’s thoughts on aluminum on a P or a J and what they liked about it. What pickups did you use.

I’ve been meaning to put together these projects and since I’m off my foot for a minute I might as well finish them up.

I guess to make things more interesting, I do have a MM sweet spot routed Warmoth P body. Didn’t initially mention it as I have a Modulus Q5 sweet spot so kinda have that MM position with alt neck material covered lol.
