@lordradish How is that Tascam just in terms of being a pure mixer, irrespective of its recording capabilities?

I'm on the hunt for a new compact digital mixer now that my 20-year-old Yamaha 01V is starting to misbehave.

It doesn't have a ton of features (no Aux returns, aux sends are mono, which may or may not be a big deal), but for doing your basic gigs it's totally up to par. Preamps sound good, does have some decent effects built in, too, even a compressor on each track. When I do my live performance I plan on using it. I mostly bought it for the recording aspect, because I don't really do much live sound. For this price point, it's totally worth it.

My 8-track TASCAM recorder only allows 2 inputs at a time, which allows for stereo, but would be nice if I could record to 8 separate tracks at once.

Yes, its intentionally dirty and chopped like a kid using dull scissors.
I wanted it to sound like filth, walking home drunk late a night, stumbling around in the rain.

This has 8 mono and two stereo. You can use all 10 at once.

The T-1 arrived today. I did quick tries with MIDI and CV. It is really fun!

My wife and I are talking about our days at dinner:

me: also I got a new black box with knobs and pads.
her: but does it have a lot of lights?
Me: yes.
Her: good.

Last night we watched Beware of Mr Baker. I’m not at all a classic rock person but it was a hell of a watch, and when Eric f@@@ing Clapton comes off as the reasonable person, you know the main character is deranged. Lots of good drumming.

Last night we watched Beware of Mr Baker. I’m not at all a classic rock person but it was a hell of a watch, and when Eric f@@@ing Clapton comes off as the reasonable person, you know the main character is deranged. Lots of good drumming.

I got to see Ginger Baker's Jazz Confusion not long after I saw that film. He came out walking with a cane but once he sat on the kit dude was killing it. All jazz in that project, he made a point of telling us "well you're not going to hear any f*&^(ing Cream tonight!"

He was quite a character.

Saw Joe Morello at drumfest in MTL in 2000, he could barely walk and had a personal assistant at all times.
Also had major heart and breathing problems.
You could see the reaper hovering above him, but once he got on the kit he went effin ape shizzzle crazy.
Every jaw in the room dropped and all eyes where the size of flying saucers.
If I hadnt of seen it witH my own eyes I would have never of believed it.

It's just a sequencer, so you add your own sounds -- it controls whatever you want. One of the nice things is, eg, for controlling tuned drum sounds or samples assigned to a pitch, there is a knob you can turn to try out the rhythm on different parts of your kit.

That said, I am not sure if you would like it. There are button combos and hidden states, I've already worked through all the exercises of the rhythmic variation part of the manual today. Will take a break before the tonal part.

Last night we watched Beware of Mr Baker.

I loved that flick...and I am definitely not a fan of his drumming. But boy-howdee what a character!

Along similar lines -- i.e., another Classic Rock musician who's dead now and presents a fascinating character study in a film biopic -- I highly recommend "Every Night's A Saturday Night" about saxophonist Bobby Keyes.

I freakin hate programming drums that why I always use breaks. But digging, even in this digital age can be VERY time consuming.

it can be that. And it’s fast. I also hate programming drums which is why I gave it up. But maybe I will now. Send me some drum samples you like and I’ll make something so you can hear what it would be like.

Edit: forgot my reason for posting: am I right that the WMD Geiger Counter is a fantastic pedal and worth my while?

As JES stated it is that, it just doesn’t have a sound engine attached. You need to connect it to a euro rack sampler via CV or a laptop via MIDI. I’m sure you can connect it to other MIDI receiving sample players too.
