I love flats and dead rounds. (dead rounds being my favorites by a tiny, miniscule bit)
I've always hated new strings, ever since day 1 when I was a kid. (Maybe not being able to afford 2 sets a month might factor in to my subconscious) I have no idea why, the zingy metallic thing was never my "thing".
Others like that sound and make it work awesome though. I can easily listen to all types of tones.
I literally send crying memes to my luthier buddy each time I change strings. (Long time running gag...)

After spending the day with the Moog Subharmonicon I have some initial thoughts.
I can’t think of anything quite like it
Easily ends itself to meditative, generative music, though certainly not limited to that.
The paper manual that comes with it is kind of amazing. Well written and easy to grasp. Good thing!
The cost to me after tax was around $736. Not exactly chump change. Besides this synth, the main things on my short list in a similar price range are;
Polyend Tracker
Twisted Electrons MegaFM
Modal Argon 8
I’d say of all these choices, the Subharmonicon is the least versatile, though it is utterly unique.
I’ll know more I a week or so, but I really do like it so far. Ties into my eurorack rig nicely too

Damn , that Twisted Electrons MegaFM sounds crazy.
The hardware seems to lend itself more to live tweaking than the Modal Argon. (I might be absolutely wrong since I know about zero about using such gear. haha)
Plus the MegaFM looks wayyyyyyy cooler. Cool = more awesome.....therefore more awesome is more better......

It does look cool to me as well. Been on my radar for quite some time now and I would like to have a cool poly synth. All I have is an ancient Korg Trinity, which still sounds ‘good,’ but not the kind of sound I’m typically after

you know me, i’m gonna mention hydrasynth as something else to look at. module is cheaper than the keys. both are *designed* to integrate with modular.

I was planning on a hydrasynth and even got the ok from the mrs to drop the cash during pandemic, but then you couldn't find one....so I got other stuff with the funds. Ofcourse they show up in stock today...when I've pretty much just finished spending that budget and was even considering attempting to go for a pricey Broughton pre-amp tomorrow morning. I have such GAS pains mixed with minimal self control/easy to justify treating myself since I can't treat myself in ANY other way (aside from getting a pint of ice cream at the grocery store)...and our expenses have literally been cut in half for the past few months. Arghhhhhh....man vs himself. Will I be a good Evan and be responsible and spend no more money or will I be irresponsible, selfish Evan and drop more funds over the next few weeks on toys when I already have too many new toys

The Hydrasynth is on ‘the list’ for sure. I didn’t include it because it’s a bit more expensive than The other stuff I mentioned. It’s a really great. The Morph looks amazing too, though I’m just started to wrap my head around the MPE thing.
Did a whole bunch of jams on the Moog Subharmonicon last night and all day today. Nearly everything was dreamy ambient kinda stuff, so I hooked up my Model:Cycles to use as a drum machine and made this goofy Little number. One track, one pass on the Moog and one track of the drum machine, just to show the SubH better. Youtube kinda highjacked some of the low end
All this talk about toys gave me a flash back to when I was 14. SNFU, one of the best punk bands ever. From BC Canada.
That thing gives me GAS too...the whole idea of modular does, but I've been smart enough to keep my distance from modular. Most of my music friends think its only a matter of time until I cave.

It’s a fuzz with harmony up & down settings and modulation of the harmonies.

Who had me as the first of us to get the covid? 24 hours of fever so far but no other symptoms. If it gets bad I’ll start sampling my lung noises.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery! I had a run in with something similar in nature... It only lasted a day and a half. Scary business tho.
I can’t drive myself with my current back condition, and it’s not bad enough to get a ride and expose anyone else. If it stays like this it’ll be a tolerably miserable few days.
