I kinda think the last 2 Autechre records are among my least favorites.
Very good moments, but also very....mehh ones. More of the latter imo....
And I'm saying that as a fanboy of the duo.

Ok, watcha gonna buy now?

So my good friend Matthew Setzer (of many bands but most notably of Skinny Puppy) was being interviewed today on a live FB event for Vampire Noise based out of Mexico. I posted a silly comment in the chat and the hosts asked him about it. He gave me and my non-ambient project a quick shoutout, and quickly proceeded to label me as a gear acquisition enabler, particularly for euro modular stuff.

Toying around more with the BAM and software synths. I’m not sure what the mojo is, but there is a setting that simply passes signal through the unit without using any reverb. The manual says:
THRU. It lets you use the whole BAM circuitry (pre-delay, input gain, filters and 16-bit AD & DA conversion) but without reverb.

There’s some magic in that circuit that breathes warm life into the digital soft synths. I could see myself running a soft synth through the BAM just to get this effect.

I tried stacking up a few Empress Reverb modes against similar BAM modes (Hall and Room mostly) and I’m definitely drawn to the BAM. The Empress can get pretty close (or vice versa), but I find the BAM more intuitive for dialing in a sound. It’s easy to forget the BAM has the filter and gain settings since those are settings which require a button push to access (no dedicated knobs).

I was the one asking about it. I’m not sure my laptop has enough power for it, barely meeting most of the minimum requirements.

Looks great for sound design too. The additive stuff sounds really good to me
