Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

25220074[/URL], member: 30373"]I'm always pleasantly surprised at the direction this thread takes.

#ambientsextoys

To be fair, the Sex Pistols partially started as a promotion tool for a shop called Sex, and the resulting bands from their influence gave us all the resulting “waves” (new, cold, etc.) which have influenced many of us. Ironically the shop Sex was not a sex shop.

apparently russell wanted *a lot* of dildos to choose from for a scene. this guy had to go the l.a. sex shop called the pleasure chest (iirc) to buy an assortment of sizes, etc. anyway, he described walking from his car to his house with an armful of these things… and his neighbors’ reactions.

My favorite dildo story -- stop me if I've told this one before -- comes from Annie Sprinkle's Post-Porn Modernist book, where she casually notes that should the FBI get wind of someone's "adult novelty" [sic] collection, they will investigate that person for commercial zoning violations...their thought process being, no individual could possibly have a need for that many dildos, and so they must be involved in selling/distribution of said items.

I hope that rule doesn't apply to music gear :jawdrop:

Artiphon Orba...only $100

New MPE controller

I'll be honest, I didn't pay attention to either of ^^^these previous posts mentioning Artiphon ...but when an old friend who's worked in the music technology industry for as long as I've known him (>30 years) just announced that he's starting a new job as Software Lead at Artiphon, I figured some of you guys must know something about the company. TB does not disappoint.

Anyone have first hand experience with that Orba? I'm a sucker for anything that only costs $100

The Instrument 1 is intriguing, but I'm wondering if the battery is user-replaceable. If not, to me that would be a deal breaker. I just got a Continuumini for my wife (ok, I might use it too -- though she's done that to me before so it's fair) and it doesn't have an internal battery. At first I raised an eyebrow, but then I thought about it and remembered that I hate having basses with batteries in them. The instrument is as small as it can be, more or less indestructible, and is agnostic to its power supply, perfectly happy to run off a USB battery or anything else. This is much better.

There's a drum machine alternative.

Yep, when someone talks about an 808, the drum machine pops into my mind wayyyyyyy before the pedal.
The bass drum 808 bass lines are sooooo cool.

Shame on me! Almost forgot about it, though the 808 sounds so awesome! 808 bass drum sounds are magical. :D
