Ambient/Post-Rock/Textural bass playing thread

there’s a lot of music i like that has an audience that i don’t like.

Not only that, there are some genres where I don’t like most of the musicians, even though I like the music. I feel the same way about philosophers.

Also, our household love to rock out to heavy music, but will also laugh gleefully at the same time. Example of hilarity:

I’ve always found the metal tough guy posturing pretty dopey too and often love the satan metal stuff for the wrong reasons. It just cracks me up.
I remember playing a festival in the northern most part of Norway. Had to fly from Oslo and on the plane were a bunch of these 9 foot tall viking metal dudes. My attitude toward these guys was to dismiss them as a bunch of dummies, but I was pleasantly surprised to find they totally got the joke and didn’t take themselves seriously at all. That was a fun trip hanging out with some of those guys

I'm sick to deathmetal of the whole satan crap — it's worse than bowling shirts at Rockabilly shows (I love bowling shirts, but for me it's got nothing to do with r'billy which I also happen to love); and I kinda wish somebody'd pop a cork in the mouth-ass of all the crappers yappin about poppin a cap in somebody's asterisk — Really, I don't understand how these people make as much money as they do retreading the same banal themes of violence and lifestyles of the douchemoneybaggers ... They're like to wrap what Cray and Bonamassa are to bloozak.

Been busy for a few days and find myself a lot to catch up on in this thread… abs touching on my favourite subject hah!
I prefer when metal went “nu metal” well… for a while as a teen when I was going through teen angst / relationship issues etc … my two favourite things to dislike about metal are the Satan / devil thing and the anti religion thing.
I like when bands sing more about personal stuff, world stuff… war is a 50/50 depending on the day. Point in case is machine head. I love their sound, love their first album but damn hate 75% of the lyrics for the cliche anti religion stuff… I think it’s why we have it good in Australia. Most of the local stuff is personal / environmental/ real topic stuff in both oz hip hop and oz hardcore / metalcore / brutal metal (or they use it as a joke… almost every brutal band I can think of pokes fun at themselves eventually… stuff like a local band called shatter brain which has lots of death metal / “death” influences has funny video clips despite the sound being brutal… same goes with a few oz thrash and power metal ones I can think of…. Or even the band “lord” who did a cover of Kylie Minogue… maybe oz music just has a good laugh as well as the serious side!

( I love the synths and the way they got from fast rap to slow rap in the daily meds one…) anyone know how to get that real deep distorted bass synth sound in that one? Combined square / saw with some distortion???
