Very much looking forward to this

I got only 27 seconds into that video before I went reaching for my credit card!

Something about their "multiple loops all of slightly different lengths" reminded me of this post where I talked about one of Brian Eno's MIDI sequencing experiments.

Gonna watch the rest of that video before I (in the immortal words of Robert Plant) lay my money down, but at this point I'm feeling like I can't have too many loopers, and what I lack in intimate understanding of any one looper's capabilities I'll just make up for in sheer numbers :)

me too. I got on the preorder list as soon as it was announced. Judging by the other responses, and apropos the wondering about the thread title, maybe we can rename this the Soma for Bassists thread.

Happy Birthday, @steubig !!

happy birthday!

amazing weekend here. My first time playing music with someone I’m not married to (though her too) in about a year, and indoors in our space. Yesterday was the guitarist from my post rock band and today was the front man/rhythm guitarist from my dad rock band. (All vaxxed.).

thoughts: I’ve made big strides in improvising skills and my touch guitar playing. 4 string bass now feels a little weird—so much space between the strings! And it runs out of high notes! I never would have thought I’d ever feel that way.

Also playing with other stringed instruments is great. Rests, interleaving parts, supporting others, not being responsible for all melody and harmony.

This music thing is cool.

So glad to hear you got some playing time in!!

I try not to speak too much about anything going on, as I know that not everyone is in the same place...I usually leave that for IG....but I also got to do some great playing this week. It felt miraculous. Got to play a bunch of Paul Motian tunes with a trio in the mountains of NH, and got two gigs in Western, MA with some unbelievable musicians, playing some really challenging music. It was very much needed. I hope you all are getting some time to play with others if you feel comfortable these days.

It all seems to be completely dependent on where one is in the world, or even within a certain Country. Crazy time. I'm trying to enjoy what I can now as it seems the variant is pretty aggressive.

Very much so. I’ve got students all over right now and their experiences are...very different.

I’m not at all confident we are done with lockdowns, so now is the time to see friends and do stuff.

there were some serious ****-ups in our dad rock practice today. But of course people would be rusty after not playing songs for a 18 months.
