A little (VERY) basic electronic education would go a long way towards understanding why these parts have nothing to do with your problem.



Both styles were used in the earlier days.



Convince us, please!



At this point, an incinerator might be a good choice.



The "something that tells you" is wrong, confused or crazy.



The light bulb, just like the capacitor, choke and resistors, affect the tweeter only. It has nothing to do with your problem, but if you would bother to learn a little more, you would be able to see how rediculous your comments have been

No, we are continuing to go backwards, you are now officially unlearning something you already knew nothing about. Without a tweeter, the lamp and everything else on the board is already disconnected from the circuit.



Your logic is beyond obtusely incorrect, there is absolutely nothing on the crossover board that could possibly cause your problem.



Since YOU already know it all, why do you even come here to ask questions? You don't even know what you don't know, AND you are stubbornly abrasive too, which makes it impossible for ANYONE to help.

Actually, several of us have said what it isn't and we have also said what we are reasonably sure it is based on experience. Most of use are smart enough to realize that we are rarely 100% sure of anything, hence the reason for not having a 100% guaranteed concrete answer, but some of use are 100% sure of what it's not and you can't even accept this because you don't even try to understand.

Knowing what it isn't is some of the most important and useful information available. When troubleshooting, it's part of a technique called "differential diagnostics". The more you can eliminate, the less there is left that could be the problem. I've spent my entire professional life designing and troubleshooting this kind of stuff, this IS how it's done, and it doesn't matter if it makes you all sad and teary eyed that you aren't getting the information that YOU feel entitled to. Suck it up, troubleshooting is a big boy job that takes a little bit of education and thinking ability to do accurately. The results may not be what your little heart wishes for, the problem has a cause that's unchanged by your wishes, hopes or desires. I would have thought you would have figured it out by now and been a little more appreciative of the help you have been given.

From your comments above, it's clear that you are not listening nor are you comprehending what ANYBODY is saying. Do you have any idea how disrespectful and rude this is to the TB community who was trying to help you?

Concerning one other constant variable other than the crossover network you seem to not address or acknowledge.

You yourself said it will do this when the 15s are out but the 10s are still in. The only thing left other than the crossover is the cabinet itself :)
Or maybe a semi blowen driver, that's new.

Stumped? I don't think so. Several people suggested trying different things that would have narrowed down the source of the problem. You response was to ignore the recommendations, take the cab apart, and make it impossible to actually do any sort of experiments. There is really no point in continuing until you get the necessary parts to run the experiment you have planned, but you keep egging people on. So I am thinking more and more that you're just trolling us and having a good laugh.

First, everyone here is correct. It is impossible for the crossover to be your problem.

We have offered you over a dozen things to check. We have asked dozens of clarifying questions. You refuse to answer most of them because you think you already have this figured out.

Let's dip out toe back into the learning pool. Humor me. Actually answer all of my questions.

Does the problem happen with multiple, different basses?

Does the problem happen with multiple, different amps?

Does the problem happen in other rooms and buildings?

Now, let's talk about the HPF (High Pass Filter) for a sec. They don't work the way you think they do. Let's say you turn an HPF up to 80Hz. The fundamental of a low E is 40. You can STILL HEAR the low E. It doesn't "vanish". You're hearing the harmonic (a bit over simplified... but still...). But it doesn't matter. You still hear the note just as you would without the HPF (only a bit "tighter" sounding). So, someone suggesting an HPF earlier was actually trying to help. It's a good idea to try if you're dead set on keeping the cab.

Lastly, don't be so stubborn. There is a wealth of knowledge here. Some of the people who have been trying to help you are EEs who design bass amps for major manufacturers and techs with decades of experience.

I came here a long time ago thinking I knew some stuff. I didn't. I have learned a great deal from this community. You could too.

Given your age, why are you so unwilling to listen to those with far more experience and knowledge than your own?
 
That was an entertaining read. I’m usually a little bored and just scan reading the posts when a thread hits 6 or 7 pages. When I read the last post on page 9 of this thread, it was a little like watching the last episode of Longmire.

For the OP;
Definition of resonance (you have definitely demonstrated this phenomenon exists at your place in a big way )
: a vibration of large amplitude in a mechanical or electrical system caused by a relatively small periodic stimulus of the same or nearly the same period as the natural vibration period of the system

Definition of resonant frequency
(it’s an “F” at your place!)
: a frequency capable of exciting a resonance maximum in a given body or system
 
On a serious note, if he were to tune to 432 instead of 440. Would that shift F to 36 instead of 44? If so, would any more reside directly at 44/88/132/etc? If not, wouldn't that technically solve the issue at hand? Lol

What about the old school practice of filling speaker boxes with polyfill? We used to do that with car audio subwoofers and get noticeable results, never bothered to learn the science behind it though. Does that alter resonant frequencies in any way?

I am NOT discounting what you are all saying.

What I am saying is, I am in the process of ruling out possibilities towards narrowing and zeroing in on the more exact root of the problem.

If the 210s are on one line, and the 215s are on a second, and when testing just the 215s entirely outside of the cabinet, and independently separate from each other, the F Bomb is there, then this rules out the cabinet, this rules out the 210s specifically, and this rules out the 215s specifically. A process of elimination.

At that point this told me the problem had to come from a centrally located Conjoining point, the juncture where both sets of speakers met, and this happens to be at the Jack Plate Circuit Board.

Here is where things get confusing.

Most of you said the Crossover can NOT be the cause when the Tweeter is disengaged. Okay this sounds good, but the F Bomb was still there, the Crossover is still the conjoining juncture point, and I can't help but notice the F Bomb is still there. To further eliminate this possibility would mean ReWiring the Jack Plate by fully removing the Crossover, and just to be sure Nothing in the Crossover is causing the problem, testing the cab WITHOUT the Crossover at all.

If the F Bomb is still there afterwards, then something else has to be the cause of the F Bomb, and this would mean something else very unusual has to be the cause.

Now I understand there are options which could be used to Dial Out the F Bomb, for example the HPF, or Parametric EQ, and Severe Compression maybe, but what I am saying is, before I go to using these options, I first want to see what eliminating the Crossover does.

From there I want to see what I see, and then make up my mind on what I want to do with the Isovent cabinet.

I like the Isovent Concept but I am NOT sure Ampeg got it right when designing this D50 HE cab.

So DON'T think I am discounting what you all are saying.

In fact you all were helpful in explaining what the Crossover is and how it works and this led me to conclude Removing it all together and testing it that way is the next step in the process of elimination.

Before talking with all of you I had No Idea what to do next.

So if you think I am NOT listening to you, you are Wrong, because I am listening, and I am learning.

What I am saying is, via the process of elimination, I want to make absolutely sure there is Nothing UnForeSeen going on with this Crossover Circuit Board, which happens to be the one point where the 215s, 210s, and the stupid Tweeter, ALL Meet.

If the F Bomb were just in the 210s, or just the 215s, this would probably make more sense, but the fact it is in both actually doesn't make sense, and the one thing that does make sense is the juncture point conjoining the two, which happens to be at the Crossover Board.

How can both the 210s and the 215s both have the F Bomb when independently tested separately they both have the F Bomb?

This means the F Bomb is coming from elsewhere.

Yes the F Bomb is there with different amplifers, and different basses, and the F Bomb is NOT present when playing any of my basses through any of my other systems.

This narrows the problem down to the Isovent.
