Ampeg PF500/PF350

I would love to - but unfortunately I don't have a way to record and no clue how to host the files online. I tried recording something once with the mic that's built into my laptop and post it on youtube, but it didn't really sound that good.

First gig with the PF500/PF115 setup tonight. I couldn't have been more pleased. Rig:
1950 Kay M1B
K&K Bassmax
G&L 2000 Trib
Into my new
Ampeg PF500/PF115.

Soundman said no need for a DI feed--PF is filling the house. Man this thing has balls! Good tone with both the G&L and the Kay. I ended up playing the Kay all night, using the Bassmax and no preamp, very strong and punchy. I had tons more volume in reserve. The Master never broke 11!

Here are the (clock) settings I played all night.
Compressor 12
Vol 1
Bass 10
Mid 9 on #2 setting
Treb 1
Master 11

And here's the setup;

I'm surprised you did'nt need a buffer for your upright pickup. Do'es the Ampeg have a 1meg or higher input? That would be great if it had a 10meg. I use a b100r with my upright and it sounds ok plugged straight in but much better with my fishman pre/di set to pre eq then into the amp.

Really glad some positive reveiws started pouring in on these amps.

Surprised me too. This was also my first time out with the K&K Bassmax so 2 rig changes last night.

I know others that use the Bassmax straight in. It sounded good at practice so tried it at the gig. I had a Fishman and K&K pre on the ready but it sounded SO rich without it I decided not to clutter the signal path. All my experience with Underwood and Fishman and other piezos told me. I'd need a buffer. I'll experiment more to see whether its the pickup or the amp.

Yeah, the PF-500 has 1 megohm input impedance.

I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a solution for the clipping issue that's been mentioned in this thread. I bought my 350 a few weeks ago and practiced with it twice. Last night was the first time I had to contend with the amp cutting out on my when I hit the bass kind of hard.

I don't believe the amp's cutting out for thermal reasons; mainly because it's not getting warm at all, and a thermal cut-out usually takes more than the couple of seconds it took for the sound to return.

I really like this head. It sounds great and I love the size. I only want to use if for practice and for smaller gigs. I guess I'm unsure if it hit its limit, or if I just need to keep tweaking the knobs.

Was anyone who mentioned having this problem able to resolve it?

Hey Jeff, I'm curious if you have the compressor turned off? I have the PF500 & always have the compressor on between 10 & 12 oclock & haven't experienced this issue.

I have the pf350 so no compressor for me. I'm wondering if I shouldn't just go get the 500 so I have the overhead.

I had the same problem with my pf500, and someone suggested that I repeatedly plug and unplug a cord in all the 1/4 jacks. I plugged and unplugged like a madman, and I haven't had a problem since, either rehearsing or gigging.
I know it sounds way to easy, but I think his point was to make sure the new jacks were making good contact with the plug. And it sure seemed to do the trick for me

So, is that the same thing as "jacking" off? :) Sorry, I couldn't resist.

In all seriousness, I'm going to have to try that method as I just replaced the 350 with the 500, got it home, turned it up a bit and same thing.

I'm wondering if it isn't my cab causing that?

I've been messing with these things since 1964 and I never heard of such a thing. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention.
