Ampeg Rocket Bass Combos

Wow it sounds like the entire RB line sound great! I think Ampeg has made the "Rumble Killer"!

lol- I wouldn’t write them off yet! I still have my Rumble 40, and really like it for practice, and open mic type stuff in small places. It sounds great, and is easy to dial in a great tone.
I don’t care for the Fender OD circuit, however, unless I’m playing one of my guitars through it!

Ampeg really nailed it with the SGT. Subtle warmth to overdriven tones- it sounds good without trying “too hard” like the old “Scrambler” did.
If you need more than the SGT- I think you’ll have a pedal of choice you can use :bassist::bassist::woot:

Well I just finished my first practice and the amp did excellent! My band mates were really impressed with the tone and build quality of the amp. We had one 12 inch PA speaker with the electric drums, acoustic guitar, and 2 vocals going through. The electric guitarists was using a Orange 60w guitar combo and I was using the RB. I had no problem being heard my settings were SGT engaged, drive off/level maxed, volume at about 1/4 the way up, bass at noon, mids and treble at 1. The amp sounded great and was plenty loud enough. I think I'm in love!

Na I'm not knocking the Rumbles too hard lol. I've just had bad luck with them. I truly feel like the ampeg is superior in every way, but the rumbles are nice as well. I actually think the R40 is the best sounding combo in the Rumble lineup. They just feel really cheap to me when compared to the RBs.

Yes it has! I've been messing around with it for a little while and I'm really digging the sounds. I found that having the SGT button engaged with the level all the way up, there is a little bit of sizzle coming from the speaker, but its nothing major when you play you can't hear it. You can hear this sizzle at low volumes as well, but again nothing major. I can't believe that I can actually hear my D and G strings. I've owned many combos from Hartke, Fender, Markbass, and Bugera and this one feels and sounds great! The Markbass combos sound a little better, but they are 3 times the price and have nasty carpet! It definitely beats out the Bugera, Fender, and Hartke combos that I've owned. Oh and it actually has insulation inside the cab, something that the Rumbles don't have.

Can't agree anymore, compare to others similar price tag combo, RB112 able make both D and G string sound fuller and meaty especially SGT engage. Another combo able do same thing are Tech21 VT200 combo which i sold a week ago.

I prefer RB bass tone more..... And, RB has sexy look. But , RB still not match the build quality on Korean made VT200.
Nice! Yeah I really like the way the RB looks. It sounds amazing as well. IMO the build quality of the RBs matches the higher priced combos that I've played. Everything just feels solid, from the speaker box itself to the knobs and switches.

I've had my RB112 since Friday and am really loving it. Also have owned the Rumble 40, 100, 200 and feel the Rocket Bass compares favorable in every way to the Rumble line (price, weight, quality, features) . It truly is dependent on the tone you're looking for to whether you choose one over the other. Can't go wrong either way.

I do prefer the SGT over the Rumbles drive circuit. I find it more musical. With the RB112 set flat, no Ultra Hi/Lo, the tone is thoroughly Ampeg round. The 12" really does have a great bottom/Mid tone thorough high volume levels. Very glad I went this route instead of other options I was looking at. As stated before, engaging the SGT circuit with the Level dimed and the grit all the way down produces some pleasing dirt and girth.

I am impressed with what I hear on this thread. I am so impressed with my Ampeg PF20T that I am considering a Rocket in place of my Rumble 200C in the event I play out again.

I've used my PF50T with a PF 112 on top of my B100R . Running drive thru the combo and clean thru the 112 . You can get a great growl going . The new Rockets don't sound like the B100R . New Rockets seem to have pre voiced more like the SCR-DI . New Rocket 12's fit perfect under a PF 112 cab .

Glad you’re so happy, b90. Here’s hoping that you’re only in a whole bunch of us out there who decided there was an alternative to the Rumble line. In time, it’ll be the only combo I’ll probably ever own.

Great post, EncoremMP! You nailed in so many ways. I can’t wait for the second gen just to see how they improve it...if they can. BTW, love the lefty P too.

Interesting thought. Fortunately for me, I really like the SCR-DI, minus the Scrambler. Now I’m finding my Ampeg gear proving great in the studio. Good stuff.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I'll never own another Rumble again. I've had terrible luck with the Rumble line having a rattle when playing and feeling very cheap. I do like some of the tones you can get with the rumble, but I like the Ampeg way better. It's overall a way better amp IMO.

Off topic , my previous Rumble 200V3 has best AUX input sound than others combo i been own (except Hartke KB15 has no AUX input feature ) include this RB112 too.

With tweeter engage, AUX signal from both digital drum and keyboard sound clear ,enough dynamic and no muddy at all. Plug the Strat to input jack, Rumble 200V3 just sound as nice as true guitar combo.
