Ampeg SGT-DI

The Shift Line 810 IRs are what I was using in my HX Stomp and really liked them. I need to try them on the SGT.
Samesies. They work great in everything I've tried them in that can handle IR's. I use the #12 Shift Line 8x10 IR on every amp block of the Stomp. No matter if that's a Fender amp, Sunn, Acoustic, etc. But then I'm just an Ampeg guy at heart.

Bear in mind that one man's trash is another man's potpourri, so others may disagree. But I far prefer the EQ curve of the two Shift Line Ampeg 8x10 IR's to the overall tone of the Ampeg SGT's stock 8x10. I'm not sure which one is more authentic, or closer to a "true" Ampeg 8x10. Maybe in that respect . . . for all I know . . . the SGT's sim is better or more authentic. For me it is way too dark and muddy. The SL ones have more character, sound a bit more "life like" and "amp like" for lack of a better description. Not dead, thumpy or muddy. I use the #12 8x10 from SL, I think it is, on most everything in my HX Stomp when I want to sound "Ampeggey." I use the #7 8x10 sometimes when I use drive, because it has a bit more punch in the mids, from what I can hear, than the #12.

That just goes for the SVT sim. As I mentioned earlier, the stock B15 cab sim on the SGT is the best B15 IR I have ever played through, hands down.

I don't really care for the 4x10 SGT sim. Which is surprising since I have historically been a 4x10 player in real life. Just not my cup of tea. It's probably better for someone who wants a cleaner tone.

As always, YMMV.

I had fun today messing with a simple comparison between a Rogue violin bass and a Player P. Both with sponge to deaden the strings. The plan was to see what was best for the B15 setting on the SGT. Can you tell which one was which?
it sounds like the violin bass was the second one to me.

Well, believe it or not, One was the Rogue! I was shocked and had to record them a second time.

I did use the HPF, same setting for both and the same settings on the SGT. I had to back off on the P’s volume to prevent clipping. The only other difference was the sponge position. On the Rogue, it was just in front of the bridge pup (which was off). On the P, I positioned the sponge just behind the PV 63 pup. LaBella LTF flats on both.

Maybe my fingering was different or I need to check the string height on the P…all I know is that I will no longer consider the Rogue as a cheap wall hanger

Just found out today that my local dealer (not GC) has one of these on hand, so I’ll be going to check it out tomorrow. I’m curious to see how it’ll pair with a more modern sounding bass (I’ll be taking 1 of my Roscoes to run through it).

Really excited about this pedal!

I apologize if I missed this somewhere earlier in the thread (I tried searching), but with the SGT circuit engaged in B15 mode, can you get a clean sound without any overdrive if the grit knob is turned all the way down?
