My SVT 7 Pro died on me recently. Not sure if it's fixable but when you flick the on switch it flicks between being on and off. Like it comes alive for about 5-10 seconds (you can hear the fan) and then dies (edit: it does this constantly while the switch is on, 5secs on, 5 secs off, 5secs on etc). Not sure how fatal this is but it'd be a shame if it was catastrophic because I've been using this amp for about 8 years and never once had an issue with it.
I'm not even sure how I would find out the revision on the amp. As for how long ago I bought it, I would say close to 10 years ago. She's been a workhorse all this time and this is the first time she's let me down.
Sorry about your amp's issues. It had a good run - it may make you feel better to think that a complete new power board costs much less than a sextet of 6550 power tubes reqiured in an SVT-CL - which normally don't last that long...
I would advise you to swap this ICE2A265 chip first. It's easy to do and super cheap. If it doesn't work, then bring it to a qualified tech and ask for a swap of the power supply. You can find many on reverb.com
If you bought it around 10 years ago, it's probably a revision A or B. Anyway, not an H which is problem free.
You can easily find some informations about all this here on TB on how to check the revision and where is the chip located on the board.
apologies for the confusion i meant real deal as in instead of emulating an ampeg, using a real ampeg head instead. of course because this is a svt7pro thread im implying the svt7pro. im fully aware that tube power sections need a dummy load at least if not an actual load connected to the head
finally joining this thread after owning an svt 7 since 2015 or so. I’ve chimed in on other threads over the years with how much i like this little amp, but i figured it was worth saying so here as well.
throwing this head into a backpack whenever we had a gig was what really sold me on this head. i can get the ampeg tone out of it that i’m used to with the svt3, i can run it as a DI for recording, the compressor is surprisingly good, and I CAN THROW IT IN MY BACKPACK AFTER A GIG. granted this is a feature of most modern amps these days, but it’s still the main reason i haven’t invested in a proper tube amp.
here’s mine with my SVT 2x15, 410hlf, and a mysterious hacksawed randall thst just showed up in the rehearsal space one day.
i will say that the hlf has been my least favorite cab. i’m curious if an hpf would clean it up some, but I have never once like my sound out of that cab. i bought it after i swore i would never drag another 8x10 around, but then I found the 2x15, which is even worse to move! at least it sounds awesome.

The SVT7 is a great amp, maybe the best I ever had and played. And I have owned some big amps like the SVT 4, The Mesa Tita V12, The Mesa Carbine, Mes M-Pulse 600.... Basically, the SVT7 was a backup for my Titan V12. I ended up selling the the Titan.

curious if anyone here has switched from the 7 to something like the Bergantino Forte or the Mesa TT-800. new amp is really at the bottom of my list, but i’m wondering if either amp is a worthwhile upgrade (considering i don’t really have any issues with the SVT 7 as is).
When did you buy it? Do you know the revision of your amp?
About another class D amp I tried the Mesa D-800. Fantastic amp, extremely light and very powerful. Great tone, very different than the Ampeg. 2 ohms capable and an HPF. The only 2 things I miss on the 7 pro.
However, the Mesa is not rackmoutable. Which is mandatory for me. However the TT-800 is. Mesa or Ampeg are my two favorite brands. I switch from one to another when I can.

i spent a long time playing an SVT 3 that i loved, and spent a little time with a V4B and a mesa bass 400+. the mesa on its own was my favorite, but the SVT 3 with a sans amp in front of it was a close, close second. I’ve finally got to play my svt 7 through a proper sealed 10” cab, and i’d probably rank it on par with the svt 3 i’ve played. ported 10s and 15s have been too round and mellow for what i’d like to do with this amp.
anyway, even if i picked up the TT-800, i would still keep the svt 7. its rad.

I bought my svt 7 pro in 2018. Rev C board Rev H. After 6 month of light use at rehearsal 5 hours/week started to cut off. Sent it in warranty to a repair shop. They told me they did not find anything wrong with the amp. Got the amp back and off course started to cut out again.
Desperate, I bought a Mesa W800, never had a problem with. It sounds different, I like Ampeg more, but the SVT 7 has still reliability problems, no matter what rev. is.
I heard rev H board is flawless, sorry really not true, and the proof is a 116 pages thread of people complaining oabout this amp failures.
I hoped Yamaha would fix definitely the issue and release a Rev. D, but instead they release merchandise and a 3000$ head...

Nothing is flawless, whatever the brand or the model. Yes, many complain, but even more have used it without any problems. Those who complain don't have the rev H.
However, I a bit amazed the repair shop didn't find anything wrong if the problem is obvious. My guess is you should bring it to a qualified tech.

how high are you running your gain and how hard are you pushing your amp? i ask because i’m almost positive that this amp is designed to automatically shut off before it blows a fuse, or when it’s severely overheating. if it’s turning back on after about 30 seconds, then my best guess is that you’re pushing your cab too hard or possibly don’t have it properly ventilated.
basically it’s most likely not shutting off because of any failure or flaw. this happened to me from time to time when i had the gain up well past noon and was pushing a 400W 2x15.

Hi! thanks for your reply! I run it with gain at 2 'clock and master at 10. EQ pretty much flat. I tried in both 8 ohm confiuration with a 410 Pro Neo ampeg and at 4 ohm adding a spare 8 ohm 115 cab in parallel. could this be the problem? the peak led is not blinking though... I shouldn't have reached "danger zone"...

@andereocci do you place your amp in a rack? Does it always occur after about 30 minutes? What if you run your amp lower?
My guess is the amp might not have a problem but is more likely to protect itself from something going wrong.
