and it starts...modding the Squier 60's CV P

Ohw baby, my baby does the Hanky Panky when I see the finish, I am not into relicing, but boy does it look sweet!

I am glad to see that my CV keeps getting scratches and dings (not sure why, I am 'pretty' careful with my instruments), but somewhere in my mind I hope my bass will get that kind of mojo and beyond. ;):D

its a soft wood with a surprisingly thin finish so it bumps nicks and bruises very easy.

worked on the outer edges of the fretboard and the headstock today. it is taking alot of time and sore fingers and im starting to go crosseyed staring at fine detail all day and i think my mid february deadline is looking like late february early march now. but hopefully the finished product will be worth sacraficing sanity for happiness.
over the next couple days i should be working the chipping and finger rubbing on the inside of the fretboard and when the neck is finished i will be aging my hardware ever so slightly just to get the new off em. everytime i work on it , walk away and come back i find it making me happier and happier

i was REALLY shooting for Valentines Day ish but i fear id be rushing the process.

i thought the artificial aging process would be a much faster process but you have to wait for finishes to cure up and harden and i have been doing alot of my work while going through stock photos to ensure the perfect final result. i also work a ton and im going to have a couple days down while my local shop does a fret dress, wires her up and does nut and setup. End of february first week of march i hould have it 100% in perfect playing condition. fingers crossed.

im just a guy who bought a CV60'S P SPECIFICALLY TO MOD EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!
this was a project to keep my hands busy and i want my end results to mimic a 70's Precision thats been used but well loved just as much as the 60's CV idea was to be a tribute to 60's era P basses..not a recreation but a definite homage.

if you have always wanted to mod but havent because:
Its too new
Im not handy enough
Im scared of butchering it
I dont have the space
I dont have the time
this thread should serve as inspiration to you guys. im an unhandy, grunt who spends 65+ hrs between work and commute who makes just enough to get by with a few perks who lives in an apartment and has minimal tools

if i can do it you can too.
if you have any questions about how or why i did something please feel free to PM me and ill be happy to share.

to those of you who have PMd me with tips and advice i thank you a ton. youve been amazing.

clock is ticking on my optimistic mid Feb deadline but were almost there, when the product is finished i will show detailed pics and show how i got from one bass to a completely different bass.

thank you for the kind words. i think the best inspiration you can have for the best results possible is passion.
I have always wanted a pretty haggard 70's P in sonic and maple. i have never been able to find one exactly the way i have alway immagined and if i ever did the truth is id have to sell every bass i have and go broke to buy one before it was sold right away. one fine day i will have the perfect 70s Fender but until then i will have something made perfectly to spec with love and theres no amount of "vintage" that beats the feeling of having exactly what you want and being the one to do it all.

good luck with any future endeavors and remember no matter what anyone else says or thinks as long as youre proud of it and love it thats all that matters
