I don't think so. Actually I don't like "most" J-pop either and I hardly ever play along with themes, but I watch way too much anime...

On the other hand two of my favorite bands are from Japan... Boris and Melt Banana, but they are not Pop.. As for Anime music I like the more un-pop stuff too, thankfully there is a bunch of it.
2 other bands (to keep this going) beat crusaders and dir en grey. Very different from one another, nothing completely original but dir en grey was the band that made me want to branch out of playing solely with my fingers. I don't know what I would do without that versatility now.
Nice, Boris is great but I really love Melt-Banana.
Bazra is worth checking out, their bassist is fantastic. They have some super funky songs. I've also been in to Supercar lately.

It's funny but I really didn't like the anime for Haruhi. I like the mange and had read it first so the show was a bit of a let down for some reason....
I've only ever read 2 manga:
*Elfen Lied, which I dropped after chapter 15 or something cause it depressed me to no end

Dude! Elfen Lied is classic it's in my top 10 of all time, but I like dark things... I thought the writing for the anime for it that really sucked! ! !
I read more manga then I watch anime anymore, it's faster.
Now I will say that Black Lagoon, Ghost In the Shell, Mushi-shi and Hellsing [OVA] are as good as the manga, Ghost in the shell I think is better in anime form.

Didn't even bother watching the anime, to be honest. Someone linked me to the first ep and I was like meh halfway already.
It's weird, though, I'm usually into dark stuff but I can't stand mind**** in anime/manga.
I am craving for more badassery, though. Stuff like Black Lagoon and the Hellsing OVAs. That stuff was the man-notes!

OK, badassery! Well then look up Battle Angel Alita [Gunnm] and Battle Angel Alita: Last Order. There is a short anime for it but it does it no justice but is still really good for the time it came out. This is the one that hooked me. If you want badassery it is very hard to beat.

But in other news: I just finished watching Durarara!! and I loved loved loved loved LOVED IT! Definitely recommend!
Actually I stopped using them a while before they went. Mangafox too. Why, because a lot of the mangas I follow got dropped for one reason or another by both so I just go to the scanalatore's sites. Baka-Updates is key! just about everything ever is listed on there and who is scanlating what... so Battle Angel Alita... and there your are.
As for anime... Highschool of the Dead!....!......!
