So once the bass player gets his strings tight, then you find a vocalist with his vocal cords perfect and tight, then you find a Bill Ward clone and his skins are tight…in 5 years you may have 12 songs ready for a dive bar gig. Sounds so worth it for this guys moment in the lights…for 45 min.
Also, I am assuming if you don’t have their exact stage clothes and exact gear too, then you DO NOT get to live his dream. Those 12 songs were on an early 60’s SG, correct? I’d ask him that because if he doesn’t have one, he’s living a lie.

I would tell him I will do it exactly down to the note perfect, not sparing a single detail, but only if he is also committed like he says, and cuts the tips off a couple of his fingers.
That should be the first meeting…dude, if you want to be Iommi and I commit to this for the long run, we have to take those two fingertips off tonight so that I know you are serious. Also, British accents at all times
We have a local hero who is a C grade player bordering a B grade who is like a rash on CL for the last nearly 3 years I know of.
He wants a guy who can play like McCartney, and, sing lead vocals and do perfect harmonies in George Harrisons register.
This is not for a Beatle tribute band either.
I told him there are a dozen bass guitarists in the world who could come close but they are mostly retired or dead but their gold and platinun records at least prove they are/were capable of meeting his requirements.
Here is the fact of life, a bass player who can sing like a bird and play like a soloist is the rarest freak of nature there is. He calls the shots, not the guitarist who is not in his league and yet they will never get it.
Coming up on 55 years playing and I have seen one (1) guy, who was the best unsigned lead singer/bassist I ever saw live. Only one. Others get by on their weaker side but a Jack Bruce level strength on both side is a freak of nature.

Where does this "practice with guitar player only" B.S. come from??, I've had to audition with just a guitarist, years ago. I stopped going to any practice/audition unless everyone was there. Just seems the right thing to do imo. Drums are more fun to play with than a weird guitarist, with obvious issues.

I doubt if he's ever had a drummer or singer that stayed for more than one rehearsal. That's why he wants to "get the strings tight," because he thinks that then he'll be able to get a drummer and singer.
