Usually the boss pedals like that have a plastic barrier between the back and the board.
I will bet that this is a grounding issue. ESP if it worked for a second when you held it the right way.
I’d start by just reflowing all of the solder and then putting tape on the inside of the plate to protect the board.

Unfortunately I won't be reflowing anything as I don't have the tools or the know-how.

here's the schematic for it.

it might be something as simple as the momentary bypass switch.

totally. Pretty much anything non metal you have lying around.

That did it! A couple layers of painters tape separating the board from the back plate fixed it, and thankfully so as that about maxes out my technical abilities when it comes to fixing electronics.

I had a DOD 250 that wasn't working and I could not figure out what was wrong. Really made my head spin because it was as simple circuit and I couldn't find the issue. Turns out that one of the jacks had rotated and was making contact with the case. That was the whole issue... just a tiny grounding issue. After that, I always look for grounding issues first.

This is a clone of the Last Gasp Arts Gomorrah, PCB from Deadend FX, a "subharmonic fuzz" as they say.

Sounds very cool on its own and absolutely amazing pushing bass heavy fuzzes like the Frantone Peach for example.

As for the graphics: it wasn't too far from Gomorrah to Sin City .....

What does a pedal look like if I sand thr enclosure smooth and don’t clear coat?

I have some enclosures that I polished over a year ago and they still pretty much have their shine. They will oxidize a little . I know for my final polish stage I use white diamond. It polishes and leaves a protective coating . If they start looking ugly over time I just clean em up with the same stuff and they look new again. I would not clear coat polished aluminum. There is nothing for the clear coat to bite into and it will chip and Flake off over time. That has been my experience. Your results May differ.

Finished one today (the VMT clone) and re-painted, then etched my RC Booster clone.

This laser engraver is definitely helping my pedals look less janky

I tried using the laser to create a stencil, but the results were messy.

I had better luck painting the enclosures, then engraving that paint.

On the VMT clone, I primed the top/face of the enclosure then painted it blue. The laser etched away the blue, but didn’t do much to the primer.

The Bass RC booster was originally painted orange, then I spray painted it with a metallic graphite color. The laser burned through most of the graphite color, and let some of the orange come through.
