Question and I think that this might be the right place for it:

Have been really wanting to get the Broughton HPF + LPF as my Q/strip HPF/LPF is not adjustable and I'd like to tighten up my low end more.

But, realized that my Son of Ben/Benson Clone has a HPF/LPF for the bass and treble tone controls. Does anyone know enough about the Son of Ben/Benson to know if the filters there are comparable to a dedicated HPF/LPF like the Broughton?

Unless the frequencies are sweepable, I don't think the SOB will have the same utility as the Broughton H/LPF.

If its the same one thats on pedalpcb, by looking at the schematic I would say no.

followup question as this thread has some good answers. I have a tech 21 q strip at the end of my chain. Like a lot of things about it, but the hpf and lpf are fixed and just on buttons (on or off). Is there a way to adjust the eq so that, for example, you cut more bass with the hpf?

According to the manual the HPF is fixed at 45hz anything below that is attenuated at 12db per octave. I didnt see where it works in conjunction with the eq. The LPF however seems like it may. Copied and pasted from the manual. Hope this helps a little. Im sure @Passinwind knows way more than I could offer.

When the LPF is used in conjunction with the studio-grade EQ section, you can recreate different speaker cabinet curves so you can go direct with your favorite distortion and effects pedals. Note: The combination of the Mid 2 EQ and High EQ with the LPF, allows you to increase or decrease the per octave slope of the filter in the cabinet simulation setting

is it a fools errand to get rid of this for a Broughton hpf/lpf? Is it worth trading the functionality of the q strip/di for a little more hpf control?

Here are some pedals I boxed up lately.

LAL Sick Pitch King Jr., Deadend PCB, EXP for FREQ control, which can be smooth or stepped (switch). Pretty crazy noisemaker.

EZEKIEL 25:17, Bass FUZZ / OD, à la DAM, Effects Layout PCB. Clean blend, D9D as GE. A classic.

Evil Owl Echo, à la Catalinbread Montavillian, 9 or 18V (more headroom), Effects Layout PCB, PT2399. Pretty nice delay, Cut knob is cool, it can be used to tame the feedback.

RANGE BENDER, SI/GE hybrid fuzz (à la Jumbo), preamp to push the saturation of the circuit. It could also take SI/SI.

SSBS Mini, Effects Layout PCB. I put some resistors in sockets just in case, but biasing went fine, the V-range on the bias knob is like 2-6 Volts if I remember correctly.

And a PCB I ordered ages ago and found in my PCB drawer. Small Formant Drive, Mask Audio PCB, does the boost to fuzz thing with some octave, Thud is actually a bass input control.

DIY day. Muff is a Tall Font Russian variety, board from FuzzDog with diode switch, shift and blend.

Chorus is from PedalPCB's Caesar (Julia)

First few batches of Tayda UV printing, first time using illustrator and first time using waterslide decal.

Been awhile. VFE Pinball V1 Live Series. Relay bypass. I previously built the V2 SPS version. Not much difference but I think I like this one better. Especially as far as building goes. Been awhile since I polished and etched and I found some nice 1590b enclosures that take nicely to polishing without blemishes in the metal. I built this one to spec but I have more boards to play with and am going to do another with bass mods.

I was looking for one awhile back. I didnt find anything at the time. I ended up finding a layout on effects layouts blog and etched my own pcb and built one. They have a bass specific DI. It seems to do the job. Im sure there are better options out there that use transformers and such but I haven't really dug into it to deep, yet.

The MONDO POWER is a Bass Boost/OD that can double as a (poopy half watt) power amp driving cabs, thanks to the LM386 and the BIG cap (4700uf) - if I got that electronic stuff right.

The circuit has been designed by Dunwich Amps and Nick was cool enough to hook me up with some PCBs after he closed shop (thanks!).
As that "hooking up procedure" was through Osh Park, I ended up with more than just one PCB (minimum order of 3).

I did build one right after getting the PCBs, loved it and then thought about making another one, this one, with an added gain pot (first BS170) and some fancy components (Dale resistors in certain spots, Silver Mica and Nichicon caps, 2 big ol' tantalums).

Thing is, it didn't work .... I followed the signal to almost the end of the circuit with my audio probe, the Volume pot (stereo) seemed to be a dud and the culprit but I didn't feel like removing that and ordering another one, so I put the whole thing aside for quite a while. Then came back to it a few days ago, did another fresh audio probing session and realised that there actually was a signal coming out of the volume pot hitting the LM386, so a quick change of the IC (new one from Retroamplis) and BOOM, there it was, alive and kicking, threatening to break windows and cause small earthquakes.
Gotta love them short trouble shooting sessions!

I still want a bigger knob for the Boost, but here it is anyway.
