Anybody else afraid of any forums here?

It's easier to say what I do look at: Band Management, Band Humor and Gig Stories, and I guess Basses. And classifieds, more than I should. As far as everything else goes, I am blissfully non-technical.

I must admit that I come here to listen, learn, and in some cases laugh. This place has been an amazing source of knowledge and insight for me. (Thanks all!)

My experiences here have all been extremely positive, but... we have all seen the smoldering charred remains of threads gone awry. This simply leaves me with the desire to post/discuss very carefully, and hopefully wisely.

no fear here, but: there are so many 'interesting' ideas going on = i just don't have time to read them. my habit is to read all the posts on a thread before i post (plenty of exceptions, however). so i'm reading mostly.

Now, that is a refreshing habit. If more people read all of the posts on a thread before commenting on the OP, there would be far fewer misunderstandings and friction. At least that has been my (recent) experience .

Heh, I was a regular on a few USENET groups where threatening physical harm was an everyday thing. Some of those guys are still close friends too, twenty years in.

I was a USENET user for a long time, too. Now THAT place had some scary stuff at times. But, like you, I'm still friends with several of the people I met there and it's been 18 years now.

I want desperately at times to make some good spirited, and (I think) funny, jokes over in the effects forum. I dare not ever attempt that again. Just looking at the avatars of some of the posters hanging out there is enough to tame me.

I also shut off notifications to the classifieds and one particular artist forum here. The 2 unsubscriptions saves me a lot of time, money and aggravation. I'm not ascaired of those 2 places though. Just know it's better for me to keep out.

I’m more scared of posting and someone calling me out for finally having a non-pun or humor related post.....I aim to disappoint most forums here as I do my fans when I play bass....

But yeah, any thread in band management with venting I’m scared to post in.

Not so much here, but I was a frequent contributor over at the Harmony Central live sound forums awhile ago. They were having a go at guitarist in general and the forumites out of the guitar forums found out and descended en mass, like bunch sugared up four year olds seeing puppies for the first time, and generally made a mess of that forum trying to defend themselves and/or just making it unusable.

My favorite forum is a forum that requires you to use your real name. It kind of makes you accountable for your posts. It's always funny when someone new comes along, and despite being posted all over every page, posts with a screen name and quickly gets called out on it. Then gets all butt hurt when they seem to think they're special and shouldn't have to follow the forum rules. Some people accept it and quickly change to their real name, while others, not being permitted to be a jack ass anonymously, quickly disappear. I believe it was that same forum, that I was deservedly put in my place for being a dick (under my own name, I might add) and not contributing to the thread. I'm still active on that forum and have the opportunity to meet a number of people from that forum at shows and when they came through town. Always good to swap stories with those guys.

Tend to stay away from the ask forum. Not because, it's the person being asked, but because of the vile posted asked against the asked.
Haven't found the Rosetta stone to the secret languages used in jazz, I mixed up about the mixalodian, quit exploring the Dorian, the modes need to written in greek, that way we know its a secret.

While not any fourms specifically, i have learned to just skip certain topics whenever and wherever they show up. I have opinions and experiences that may prove helpful, but i’m not dogmatic about anything so i’ve learned to not kick certain turds on certain warm days, and so far i’ve been lucky enough to go where i want when i’m in need of advice or may have some wisdom to share; i just don’t chime in on select topics which require groupthink so i won’t be flayed for expressing an opinion contrary to the immutable known truth of those things.

Being an effects user who doesn't always use effects I am flameproof in that area, but I'm afeared of the Luthier's Corner... largely due to lack of knowledge...

There are some tediously negative characters around where electronics and acoustics are concerned, but they are far outweighed by the genuine industry experts who donate their valuable time to TB.
