Anybody else afraid of any forums here?

I steer clear of the classifieds for my wallets sake!

The Classifieds makes sense. Smart move for anyone who has GAS and can acknowledge it.

TB is a low-cut cardboard box full of blind newborn kittens. Harmless.

I'm mostly scared of getting suckered into circular arguments and wasting time.

There are some VERY patient experts in these forums.

I usually hang around the same ones unless, something I see I can help with, if no one else has stepped up. I do not claim to be an expert at anything, but I have experienced a lot and if it is something I have dealt with and have the solution, I'll will throw in my 2 cents.

I don't usually browse sections of the forum. I just keep hitting "New Posts" and bounce off of whatever everybody is talking about.

I want desperately at times to make some good spirited, and (I think) funny, jokes over in the effects forum. I dare not ever attempt that again. Just looking at the avatars of some of the posters hanging out there is enough to tame me.

I also shut off notifications to the classifieds and one particular artist forum here. The 2 unsubscriptions saves me a lot of time, money and aggravation. I'm not ascaired of those 2 places though. Just know it's better for me to keep out.

Nah, not really. I never even looked at the Basses Forum for a number of years though, already liking what I had and just not really having any reason to go there since there was zero chance of me buying another bass. But now it's relevant to my business interests, so I'm down. I also don't buy or currently use Effects, but many of the guys in the Breeder thread are good friends, either online or even in what passes for real life.

I probably look at the Classifieds once every other month, at most. I'm just not a good consumer, I guess.

I was an active member of the Harmony Central forums back in their epic flame wars days. I'm not askeerd of nuthin' no more.

TB's always been pretty tame in comparison to lots of other forums.

Heh, I was a regular on a few USENET groups where threatening physical harm was an everyday thing. Some of those guys are still close friends too, twenty years in.

no fear here, but: there are so many 'interesting' ideas going on = i just don't have time to read them. my habit is to read all the posts on a thread before i post (plenty of exceptions, however). so i'm reading mostly.

- i like the DB side and have had a few posts/conversations about the jazz thing.
- i don't use effects much, but have used that forum for information searches (yeah: they're nuts!)
- i like the band management conundrums
- love that the lobby exists, but rarely have time for it
- same with the miscellaneous forum
- i spend some time admiring all of the NBD's which pop up on the recent posts page

it's all fun!

I'll wander into an unknown forum when I am thinking of making a gear change. I never used effects on my bass as it's a Precision. I'll peruse AMPS because I'm always interested in an old school tone out of a lighter rig.

I'd go to the DB forum but a real DB would be costly, I'd have to devote tons of time to it, and maintaining such a beast. I'm too long in the tooth for that.

I am very careful posting on any forum. Many forums, including TB, have people just lurking waiting for something they can beat up even if there is not much there. Wait, maybe that is Russian hackers! TB also has some very good members that are quit knowledgeable. Aged Horse and Jimmy come to mind. There are others.

I'm not put off by any of the threads I have visited and I have visited some of the ones the OP mentions. Yeah, some of threads have their own quirky culture about them but I can learn to deal with that sort of thing. TB is just a nice, helpful place to hang out really as long as you are respectful of others. In all my years on the internet I have only been threatened with a physical beating once and that was on a TELESCOPE FORUM of all places!! I guess men really do love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil....

And yes, I know there's no such word but I like it .

I am not afraid of any of the forums here ...

But many here take TalkBass way too seriously. They cannot tolerate people disagreeing with them

I actually got suspended for saying that I have no interest in playing a 4 string bass because I only play 5 string basses.

Many here need a chill pill.

I am completely comfortable with the fact that people disagree with me and have different opinions ... As long as they don't try to shut down my free speech.
