Only bass I would consider upgrading is my carvin fretless but it sits there to remind me I never play fretless and to not buy a Tony Franklin... So it has its place.

LOL... Totally there with you on the Tony Franklin and having to remind myself that I have a MIM fretless neck in the arsenal should I wish to practice intonation before splashing out for one of the most drool-worthy Fenders of all, the black TF with ebony fingerboard. If only I played fretless well enough to justify buying it!

I have owned more basses than I can remember or count … more than 50 less than a 100 … I loved them all … even the not so great ones

My favorite is usually the one that just got a new set of strings or just got a new setup or the last one I just built.

I have owned close to a hundred and have two that I am happy with. MM sterling 5HS and bongo 5HH. I have one that I want but won't buy a new one. Hopefully I will run across a used one.

Yeah, I've also run out of wall hooks and room in my music room to add more. I have five basses (and am thinking of going to four) but I also have two hooks for guitars.

Yeah...I have one hood for my acoustic guitar. I live in Nashville...I think it's a requirement to own a guitar. LOL!

I always hoped for a Sabre 5, but the Sabre 4 has been in & out of production twice now - ‘ain’t gonna happen.

I got a good P, a good J, a good active bass, and a good old & heavy Peavey, and I am good with them all.

I have not had a need that couldn't be filled with what I have in a very long time.

A gut renovation, or just a "resurfacing"? Depending on which, and how successful you are you might just find yourself with a new instrument as a reward.

I'm down to two basses and i love them both. American Original 60's P and Stingray Special. The only other bass I might want is a beater like a Road Worn P that I could do some mods to and play at some of the dives we occasionally play at.

Well, I must say that a have great basses. I do not need anything else. In fact, I should study more harmony, reading and some techniques. However, it’s easier to buy a new bass and pretend that I play better.

I have one bass that I struggled with at the beginning but is now my all time favorite. It is a Sire V7 White/tort alder/rosewood. After years of P basses and Ricks to me this fits right in the middle. Makes me want to play and not stop!

For the first time in my life I'm at a point where I don't want to buy any more basses.

It doesn't mean that other basses don't appeal to me - I saw on FB that Carey Nordstrand is doing a small run of Nordy nP4s and I'd love one. And the new Stingray Specials look/sound/feel great. But I won't be getting either because I have everything I need.

Honestly it's kind of a weird feeling. I think I've always looked at my basses and thought if only it was lighter, or punchier or had a different neck profile or was a different color etc. But now after years and years I don't have any complaints.

Now I just need to practice/gig more.

How about you? Where are you at in your journey to find the perfect bass or basses for you?

I've had three basses since 1965. I was unhappy with my first piece o'crap Japanese bass that I bought in 1965 and in 1966 I bought a Fender Jazz Bass. I toured in the 70's with that bass and really loved it. I was not looking for basses after that. Then in 1976 it was stolen along with all my bass gear, 2 mics, and a mic stand.

That put me on the look-out for a new bass. Took me until 1985 to find another Jazz Bass that felt and played like my '65 did, and again I stopped looking at basses. I was working part time in a music store at the time (had gone back to school) and had tried plenty of other basses including an Alembic that we had. Also some Aria stuff, Gibson stuff (never cared for their basses), Jackson, and about 50 different Fender basses. So I looked long and hard for the right bass. Then one day a guy came in with this white Fender Jazz in mint condition and didn't like it. We gave him a really low price for it and he walked out very happy with an Aria Pro II bass. As soon as I tried out this white Jazz with maple neck, I knew it was the one, and it has been for the last 34-years.
