Anyone here into old cars?

I encounter young people that think 1980's cars are 'classic' or 'vintage'! sheesh!No, not anymore. At my age, they just make me feel old. With the exception of the '32 Caddy (and maybe the '47 Stude, a little), none of the cars (or the bikes) pictured here were "old cars" when I first encountered them - they were New - or at most, just a couple of years old. And that's kind of depressing, sometimes...
The Blue one is now somewhere in Atlanta. I sold it to a soldier while he was still in Iraq. He bought it as a thank you gift for his dad. That kind of touched my heart. Anyway....just sayin.
Love the Packard! I love old cars. I used to be a mechanic in the 70s. I figured out that I've owned about 74 cars, including a Lancia Fulvia(a friend and I drove it from Riverside to the Great Slave Lake and back), five Citroens, 4 Volvos(including a P1800- man,wish I never sold that!),Simcas,several Fiats, a couple of Alfas,four or five Mercedes,a Borgward, a mess of VW bugs and vans, a couple of 60s Valiants and Darts, a Chevy Nova, five Peugeots,and a bunch of Fords and Chevys. That Packard brought back memories- a friend of mine offered me a 36 like the one in the picture,but for some reason, I didn't have room for it. Go figure...

Yeah, although I think it was actually a 120 that I was offered. Does that sound right? I remember it was a 36.
Well it didn't run when I got it, I'm doing a "farm" fresh restore. I work in a metal shop, so rust and dents don't set well with me.
It runs now, the front clip is just about done. New tires, radiator fixed, gas tank fixed, brakes redone.
I'm gonna paint it same color.... Flat finish.

It turned out to be a major organ transplant. The car had a 1960 36hp engine in it that had a warped hole in the block where the main baring sits. We wrote to the VW museum in Germany and from the VIN they told us it was actually a 1961. So we decided to be true to the car and put in a '61 42hp engine. Plus 42hp parts are much easier to find. Unfortunately, very few of the other parts (manifold, fan housing, cooling tins, heater boxes, fuel pump, blah blah blah) from the 36hp fit on the 42hp. So I spent a lot of time scouring the internet for parts and comparing part numbers. That was my contribution to the project. That and being the muscle in the operation. My 84yo dad is good at welding, grinding, fabricating and he has 70 years of experience working on cars. So we were a good team. Plus, it's always good to have two heads to figure out a problem.
I gotta say, V Dub people are so friendly and happy to take the time to share info. We went to a bunch of shows and meets and asked a million questions. We even met a retired guy who used to own the authorized VW/Porsche repair shop in the area in the 60s and he was always happy to let us pick his brain. Really really great salt-of-the earth people.

I'll tell you what I think would look sharp on that. The classic red rims and white walls. But keep your same heavy duty rims, just paint them.

I have since I was 5. I am really into all old cars but have a soft spot for Aircooled Vw's, In college which for me was 2008-2012 I had 2 1970 Vw Buses and a '74 Super Beetle with a sunroof. There all gone as I moved to LA and dont have space for a vintage car but I have leads on a 1957 VW bug in Oregon with the original owner. Trying to buy that and store it at my dads.
My dad has a minty all original 1982 Datsun 280zx but I am not sure thats considered vintage, its mine someday but I liked the 240z he used to have and sold.

Thanks, NG51. Bridget is Mr blastoff's dream car. He's always wanted one, and now he has one. She's not a perfect specimen by a long shot, but she's a good-quality driver. I bought her two years ago in LA, made it as far as Woodsomething in central CA the first night, then did the 840 miles home the next day. 65mph, 25.5mpg. Not bad for a 40-year-old car in the dead of winter!

Those Open GT's were beautiful. No idea how they drove, but the old Opel Manta was fun to drive.
That P1800 is sweet too. Actually, too many sweet cars to list.
I had a 1963 Studebaker Lark Wagon for a while - the one where the back half of the roof slide forward, making it an erstwhile pickup truck. Wasn't Studie's greatest idea, leaked pretty badly. But fun. White, like this one.

A great car, blastoff-I drove my 63 about 400,000 miles. Mine was the coupe, of course- always lusted after the wagon.
