Well the CDC did put up a what to do in case of Zombies...

So 5:17am everything is still here... isn't there suppose to be an earthquake at 6:00?

Okay. So we need a BUNCH of people to gather old outfits, complete ones, down to the undies and shoes. And likewise several people need to get blow up dolls and helium tanks. And at the appointed time someone with a powerful sound system play something really trumpet-intensive as a signal and we will abandon the outfits on sidewalks all over the place and release the dolls to float away together. It will be the most epic prank of all time.

I've heard people suggest parts of this, but clearly it's a combo deal. We need to do it all.

the saddest thing about this whole episode is that this Harold Camping "scholar" dork has succeeded in sowing discord and fear among people over his bullcrap.

i'd love to just point my finger and laugh at the idiots but frankly i find the whole thing sad. i guess there's a large enough population of folks out there who think their lives are so crappy that they feel this world is bad enough for god (any god) to actually -want- to destroy it. that's tragic - these folks lives are going to be a LOT worse tomorrow.

I think it just goes to show that there are demagogues everywhere in human existence, from the relatively benign yet wacked-out (like Harold Camping) to the thoroughly evil and malicious (like Hitler and Stalin), and that there will always be people feeble-minded enough to follow them no matter what. The antidote to this, I think, is to be a person who thinks critically, has a healthy dose of scepticism, and is not afraid to question authority.

as time moved on and the apocalypse did not occur, the predictions just kept moving forward. in other words, there is no more need for explanations now than there has been for the last 2,000 years. in a way, predicting an apocalypse that does not occur is traditional.

I'm not here to promote any religious view or position, but not all churches or members of the Christian faith teach some ongoing, ever future threat of doom and gloom, let alone believe in a literal rapture. Just Google the word ' preterism ' and you'll find that many Christians for a few hundred years, have held that the view that the end of the age, and end of the world prophecies had to do with the times of the 1st century church and what those early Christians were experiencing, and most of the prophetic events were fulfilled with the destruction Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 A.D. I'm just pointing out that in Christendom, there are different views regarding how end time biblical prophecies are interpreted.

That's interesting, isn't it? I've often noticed that beliefs that would certainly get a person classed as mentally ill if they believed them in isolation somehow become immune from all criticism if people in sufficient numbers adhere to them.

I just heard from friends in Japan and everyone is still there. There was NO rapturing of Asian people.
But then again that might well be because there is not but a handful of Asian christians and if they got raptured......Oh well, no one would know
