Didn't Southpark do a parody of the absurdity of numerology* in an episode? Also, I always laugh when these types of people point to the decline of morality and things like homosexuality as bringing about the end of the world. Homosexuality is not a recent phenomenon.

Indeed, and if the Mayans were able to predict actual historical events, how come they didn't predict the arrival of Cortez?

*Obviously there are observable occurences tied to the rationality of numbers, such as the Pareto Principle. I was mainly speaking of the fringe practice of using a bunch of algebra and computations based upon arbitrarily decided "sacred" numbers to come to some sort of conclusion about a future event.

And Mr. Mackey's crusade concerning the urinal deuce also reminded me of high school and how certain administrative factions would make a mountain out of a molehill (kind of like the recent discussion about the guy asking the girl out to the prom).

I've read some of his stuff. 5/21 is not the end of the world, that is his prediction of "The Rapture". After that, according to him, the remaining people on earth will endure 5 months of suffering (Armageddon) until 10/21 at which time the world will end (According to him).

I have bought into the idea that no one can know, and no one will know until it actually happens (if it actually happens). I'm not sure that the Dinosaurs were of a particular religious belief or not and they certainly took it on the chin, eh?

If he's so sure he's right let's see him put his money where his mouth is. Let's see him donate his money and worldly possessions to the American Atheists BEFORE the event and, as added proof of his confidence in his statements, let's see him change his will to donate his entire estate to that same organization. If he's correct, then what does he lose? The organization won't be around to use his money now and the world won't exist for them to benefit from the changes in his will afterward.

Oh, you mean he HASN'T done anything like that?!?! Then I guess that means doing this for the money he'll make from the gullible who buy into his lies.

N.B. - In no way do I mean any offense to Christians. This guy isn't a Christian, he's a kook. "No man knows the day nor the hour."

What's the updated info on this apocalypse, guys...I really need to know.

I've got some big plans for the 22nd and I don't want to see them get messed up. That and I'm going on vacation on the 27th. I'd really like to get some relaxing time in before the end of the world.

So if you can get back to me soon-ish, like by the 20th or so, I'd really appreciate it.
